Astrid's POV
I slowly opened my eyes, having to adjust to the light. I attempted to sit up, but pain shot through me. I groaned in pain as I heard ushering around me. I properly opened them to see john holding bandages, and my chests missing the feeling of forced enclosure and discomfort. A sudden voice knocked me out of my painful thoughts.
''You have a letter from your father'' Someone said, and I looked up for it to be Lafayette. I nodded, and took it out of his hands. My fathers toxic, swirly blue handwriting dazzled the page, as I read on. I tried to contain my anger with him, since he'd hurt me for joining the revolution, as well as being friends with laf.
''My dearest daughter, Astrid,
I received a letter the other day from a Alexander Hamilton. You were shot. Maybe that will knock some sense into you. He also mentioned your relationship and begged me to confess. My daughter, you aren't an only child, as you suspected. You have a brother, Alexander. You also had two sisters, but they died at birth.
I am not sorry for holding this against you, because you didn't need to know. My wife died because of you, you gave her yellow Fever. And so, never contact me. You aren't welcome home. Your things have been incinerated. After the war, find another place, and if you step a single step on my property authorities will be informed.''
I stared at the paper, then stared back at Lafayette, a dull expression coating my face. I was homeless, parentless, and I had a brother? Laf pulled me in for a hug and I hugged him back, tears brimming in my eyes. We sat there for awhile. Before I fell asleep on his shoulder.
A few days later
I awoke again, to have Lafayette sat beside me, and head in his knees. I felt bad. He thought it was his fault. I looked over to the door that was opening. Two men stepped out, and Lafayette awoke with a small gasp. He stood up and left for a second, before coming back into the room. Washington and John stood Infront of me, and john was staring at me, arm crossed.
''Miss Astrid Jacques. What are you doing on the battle field?'' Washington asked, and I gulped, looking at him. He was stern, and john stood next to him. I looked down, now wanting to explain to the two, but then looked back up. Lafayette stood in the corner of the room, his head resting against the wall. He caught me gazing at him, an he shot me a pleading a look.
''You pressed Lafayette for answers about my identity!? Do you know how hard it was to prove myself as a lower-class woman in France? and to have my best friend an upper-class male!?'' I yelled, looking at the two. I got out of the bed I was in, pain purging through my body, but I had to prove my point. I leant on the wood, and stood at the end of my bed.
''Do you sir!? I came with Lafayette, to prove how much I could do. Not to be pitied ''Miss Jacques-'' ''If you even THINK. about sending me away I will come back 10 times harder'' I said, immediately cutting him off as the general tried to interrupt me. He knew I was right, so he backed down, looking at laf.
''lieutenant Lafayette. Watch over lieutenant Jacques while he rests.'' He said, before leaving the tent. John smirked at me, and left. Laf came over and grabbed my hand, kissing it. He tried to apologize, but I could only feel angry towards him. He sold me out, especially in this part of history.
''Astro s'il vous plaît. Je ne voulais pas vous vendre. Ils ont pressé-'' He started before I shook my head. He sighed and looked at me, sadness coating his brown orbs. He began to leave, and i sat there, tears threatening to fall. I curled up in the bed, As tears fell onto the white sheets. I attempted to stand up, but fell to the floor, my tears now coating the floor.
I closed my eyes, and felt a warm embrace surrounding me. I didn't mind it, heck I loved it. They whispered into my ear, comforting words. I nuzzled into the embrace and looked p, It was Alex. I passed him the letter, and he took a minute to read it. He looked down at me and embraced me once more, hugging me again. I wrapped my arms around him, and got off the bed, so I was standing.
''Y- your a woman... and my sister? What the hell is eliza going to think!? '' He said, and I nodded slowly, and his new wifes name was nice. I sighed, and stayed quiet, letting him understand it. He sighed, and brought me away from him. I grabbed onto his arm for support and he smiled at me. He cupped my cheek and I smirked at him. He embraced me again, and I wrapped my arms around his shoulders.
''I- I finally found my other half Alex..'' I said, and he smiled at me, as tears flooded down his face. He nodded, and let me go. A nurse came in and suggested I go back to sleep, and I refused. We somehow managed to go to the tent, me on Alex's back, and him holding me.
''Hey guys! I brought Aristide!'' He said, using my male name. I smirked at him, and he nodded back. Laf and john came rushing over, and helped me down. I smiled at the twos behaviour and sat on my bed. God I missed it.
''Quick recovery like laf?'' John asked and I shook my head, staring back up at him. He let out a small gasp and fell to the floor, wiping fake tears coming out of his eyes. We all laughed as he flailed around, and Alex sat down next to me. We all collected ourselves and laf looked at me, his eyebrows raised.
''Don't look at me like that you French baguette'' I said, my French accent coming out even more then usual. Everyone erupted into laughter, as I covered my face. We laughed all night, until we decided on the bar would be the best option. Yeah.. I would live to regret that for the rest of my days, especially revolution days.
