Astrid's POV

I sat in the tent, quill in my hand and ink pot beside me. Infront of me lay  piece of untouched parchment alexander had leant me, so i could write back to my father. I took a deep breath in, and sighed, cracking my fingers. I put the quill down, and stared at the sheet. What would I say? I couldn't just say anything normal. I picked the quill back up as an idea popped into my head.

''Dear Mr. Jamie Hamilton,

When we first came to France, I didn't know what I was doing, I had to follow you. And I did well, I learnt English and French at the same time, I met Lafayette, and I did well for myself. I'm fighting in the revolution now, to try and bring freedom to America, as well as France. Sometimes I feel like going back to France would be took much for me, But now, I wouldn't have to see you. So kindly, Thank you.

You raised me, taught me how to fire a gun, but you hid something from me that I couldn't ever forgive you for, you hid my family. My mother, my brother, and my two sisters. But now, I can. Alexanders amazing, My other friends john, laf and Hercules. Were a family. So now, we don't have to stay with each other.

Good look with your life Mr. Jacques.

-Your estranged child

                                                Astrid  Hamilton.''

I stared at the paper once more before writing the name and address on the front of it. I went outside to the postal tent and sent it out, not hoping for a reply. I felt better, a massive weight lifted off of my shoulders. And I was happy for once. I walked back into the tent, to find Alex smirking at me.

''Ready to go?'' He asked, and I shrugged my shoulders. Why did I even agree to do this? It was stupid, immature and silly. But I guess that's how things went around here. He let out a chuckle and we left, walking along the path. It wasn't that far of  a walk, but with alexander? It would be hell.

'You ready for your first duel?'' Alex asked me, as we made our way to the spot we agreed on. Washington couldn't find out, and we had both promised not to tell anyone, other then the people included, including a doctor, Aaron burr as Lee's second, Me and alexander, as my second. I fiddled with the trigger and smiled at Alex. He was trying to explain how to shoot in these situations.

''Alexander god damn Hamilton. Stop talking. I'm doing this my way, the French way.'' I said, as I loaded the gun. Alex looked at me, weariness in his eyes. I smiled at him, and held his hand. He nodded, and so did I, getting into our positions. I stood opposite him, and Alexander and Aaron went in, and they started to talk.

I looked over to Charles and he was shaking. Cool, starting off easy. I stepped forward, letting outa  breath I didn't realise I was holding in. I cracked my knuckles, and fixed my jacket. Aaron and Alex separated, standing parallel to each other. Then they began.

PACES FIRE!'' Alex and Aaron yelled, and a flame escaped my gun. Red started to form under Lee's shirt, and I yelled in happiness, as Aaron ran over to him. Alex walked over to me and stood by my side, observing the scene. He was wondering the same question as I was, but he just vocalised it.

''Lee do you yield!?'' He yelled, looking at Aaron. Aaron held lee by the side, holding him upright. I had done it, imagine not being French and asserting dominance? I smirked as Aaron turned around, blood on his hands.

''She shot him in the side! of course he yields!-'' ''And I'm satisfied with it!'' I yelled, interjecting his sentence. Alex turned to me, as running and horses could be heard in the background. Washington had found out what had happened. It was kind of obvious but hey, we all didn't realise in time.

''Yo, we got to clear the field Aristide!'' He yelled, and I was thankful he used my male name, because i could not deal with anyone else knowing I was a woman. I nodded, and began to look for an exit, and Washington was coming through the only one. We were so done. Alex said something about winning, but I spaced out. Washington was shouting, saying something about how we don't stand for him.

Alex left with the general, and i stood there, gun in my hand, standing alone. I made my way back to camp, alone and feeling strange. I walked in, john asleep and Lafayette sat on his bed, reading a French book. I grabbed my blanket and sat next to the French man, wrapping myself in the thin cloth. He looked over at me and smiled, and I smiled back.

''you weren't shot?'' John asked, stretching. I had woken him up, but I really didn't care. I nodded, and put my head on lafs shoulder. I looked at my knuckles, they were still bloody, but not infected. I heard laf gasp, as he grabbed my hand. I whimpered in pain, and he took note of it. He made a circle with his hands and put it around his eye, asking me if it was from the same thing as the eye.

''I got into a fight with lee earlier, I won, obviously, but he got a few punches in, and I missed quite a few.'' I said, shrugging. Laf sighed, and nodded. He picked up his book and gave it to me. I shook my head, denying his question. John was sat on my bed at this point, and I sighed, looking at the book. it was a book in French, and if I was going to read I wanted to read English.

''English laf'' I said and he got up, grabbing another book .The cover was a nice emerald green colour, with a darker green spine. The pages were a light beige It was a book on a fairy tale, why he had these I had no clue, but I sighed, and held the book in my hands, starting to read out loud to the two. I cant remember when I fell asleep that night, but when I woke up, Me and Lafayette were up against each other, and john was on my bed. Alex was on his and herc bed was made, as always.
