David was everything that John wasn't. He was kind, considerate, and loving. Most importantly, he understood her trust issues and was willing to work with her to build a healthy and stable relationship.
As Sarah sat across from David at their favourite coffee shop, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the way things had turned out. David was a breath of fresh air after the suffocating relationship she had with John. She could be herself around him and not feel judged or criticised.
"Sarah, are you okay?" David asked, noticing the distant look on her face.
Sarah snapped back to reality and gave David a small smile. "Yeah, sorry. Just lost in my thoughts for a bit."
David looked at her intently. "You know you can talk to me about anything, right? I'm here for you."
Sarah felt a warm feeling spread through her body at David's words. She knew he meant it. He had proved it time and time again. "I know, and I appreciate it. It's just that sometimes I feel like I don't deserve you."
David took her hand across the table. "Don't say that, Sarah. You deserve happiness just as much as anyone else. And I want to be the one to give that to you."
Sarah felt her heart flutter at David's words. She leaned in and kissed him softly. For the first time in a long time, she felt genuinely happy and content.
But Sarah's trust issues were still present. She couldn't help but feel that this happiness was temporary, that David would eventually leave her like everyone else had. She tried to push those thoughts aside and enjoy the moment, but they lingered in the back of her mind.
They had first met in a bar, both looking for a one-night stand to forget their troubles. But somehow, they had ended up talking all night and even exchanged numbers. Sarah had been hesitant to see him again, but after a few days of texting and phone calls, she finally agreed to go out with him again.
Now, as they sat in a small café, Sarah couldn't help but feel a twinge of anxiety. She had been hurt so badly in the past that she didn't know if she was ready to open up to someone again. But David was patient and understanding, never pushing her too far.
