Sarah sat alone at the bar, sipping her drink and lost in thought. It had been months since she had seen or heard from John or Emily, and she was finally starting to feel like she was moving on with her life. But tonight, as she sat there in the dimly lit room, she couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over her.
Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Well, well, well. Look who's here."
Sarah turned around to see Emily standing there, a smirk on her face.
"Emily?" Sarah said in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Emily replied. "But I already know the answer. You're here drowning your sorrows over John."
Sarah's eyes narrowed. "I'm not here because of John," she said firmly.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? Then why are you here?"
Sarah hesitated, unsure if she wanted to confide in her former friend. But something about Emily's presence made her feel vulnerable and open.
"I just needed to get out of the house," Sarah admitted. "I've been feeling...lonely, I guess."
Emily's expression softened. "I know how that feels," she said. "Believe it or not, I've been feeling the same way lately."
Sarah felt a wave of anger and disgust wash over her as Emily spoke. She couldn't believe that her ex-best friend had the audacity to tell her this after everything that had happened.
"You knew he was my husband, Emily!" Sarah snapped.
Emily looked down, shame and regret evident on her face. "I know, Sarah. I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I tried to fight it, I really did, but the feelings just wouldn't go away. And then when you two split up, I thought maybe there was a chance for us."
Sarah shook her head, feeling sick to her stomach. "There was never a chance for us, Emily. You knew that. John was my husband, and you were my best friend. You both betrayed me in the worst way possible."
"I know, Sarah, and I'm sorry. I know I can't make it right, but please, can we at least try to be friends again?" Emily pleaded.
Sarah glared at her. "I don't think so, Emily. I can't forget what you did to me. And I can't forgive you either."
Emily's face fell, and Sarah could see tears glistening in her eyes. "I understand. I'll leave you alone now, Sarah. I'm sorry for everything."
Emily stormed out of the bar, not giving a single damn about Sarah. She had confided in her former friend, admitting that she had always been in love with John, and now she felt a weight lifted off her chest. It was like she finally let go of a secret she had been keeping for years.
But Sarah was left alone at the bar, her head spinning with everything that had just happened. She couldn't believe that Emily had been in love with John this whole time. She had no idea, and now she felt betrayed once again.
"Fuck her," Emily muttered to herself as she walked down the street, not caring who heard her. "She always gets in the way of what I want."
Sarah watched Emily disappear into the night, feeling angry and hurt. She couldn't understand how Emily could be so callous, so willing to hurt her without a second thought. But as she sat there, sipping her drink, she knew that she needed to move on. She needed to let go of the past and focus on her own happiness.
"Fuck her," Sarah whispered to herself, feeling a sense of relief as she said the words out loud. "I don't need her or John. I can make my own way in this world."
