Sarah had spent the last several months focusing on herself. She had hit the gym regularly and started eating healthier, and the results were starting to show. Her body was toned, and her skin glowed with a newfound radiance. She had also landed a new job that she loved and had moved into a cosy apartment that felt like home.

One afternoon, Sarah was walking back from the grocery store when she saw him. John. He was crossing the street, and for a moment, their eyes met. It was as if time stood still. Sarah's heart began to race, and she felt a mix of emotions - anger, hurt, and confusion.

John looked different. He had lost weight and looked tired, like life had taken its toll on him. As he approached her, she braced herself for what he might say.

"Sarah," he said softly, "It's been a while."

Sarah took a deep breath and tried to keep her composure. "Yeah, it has."

"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for what I did. I know I messed up, and I don't expect you to forgive me. But I want you to know that I've been going to therapy and trying to work on myself."

Sarah felt a pang of sadness in her heart. She had spent so much time and energy trying to forget about John and move on with her life. And now he was standing in front of her, asking for a second chance.

"I appreciate that you're trying to better yourself, John," Sarah said, "But what happened between us is in the past. I've moved on."

John looked at her with pleading eyes. "I understand. But Sarah, I still love you. I never stopped. And I know I messed up, but I want to make it right. Please, just give me a chance."

Sarah sighed and looked down at her feet. She thought about all the pain and heartache John had caused her. But she also thought about the good times they had shared and the love they once had.

Sarah took a deep breath, trying to calm the emotions swirling inside of her. She couldn't believe that John had the nerve to approach her after everything that had happened.

"What do you want, John?" she asked, her voice cold and distant.

"I just wanted to talk," he said, his eyes pleading with hers.

Sarah shook her head. "There's nothing left to say."

John took a step closer, and Sarah instinctively backed away. She could feel her heart racing, and she knew that she needed to get out of there.

"Please, Sarah," John said, desperation creeping into his voice. "I know that I messed up, but I still love you. Can't we try to work things out?"

Sarah's anger boiled over, and she raised her hand, slapping John hard across the face. "No, John! You don't get to just waltz back into my life and act like nothing happened. You cheated on me with my boss! You broke my heart, and I will never forgive you for that."

John recoiled, his hand flying to his cheek where a red mark was beginning to form. He looked at Sarah, his eyes filled with regret and sorrow. "I know that I messed up, Sarah. And I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you."

Sarah shook her head. "Sorry isn't enough, John. You can't just say a few words and expect everything to be okay. You need to take responsibility for your actions and face the consequences."

With that, Sarah turned on her heel and walked away, leaving John standing alone on the street. She didn't look back, didn't give him the satisfaction of seeing how much he had hurt her. She knew that she was better off without him, and she was determined to move forward with her life, no matter how hard it might be.
