Some months and some change.

Nearly 8months later...

Alaia sat at the Thanksgiving table ready to be back in school.

The last few months at her father's hadn't been bad, mostly because she was barely there but she was definitely looking forward to having her own place at the beginning of next semester.

Alaia thought it was best.

Her stepmother made it very clear that kids weren't exactly her thing and they would 'cramp' her style.

That was the opposite of her father who was excited, even now.

"I mean why do a natural birth with twins??" Evonne, her stepmother asked.

"We all have preferences like you don't want kids but I really appreciate you payin for everythin." She said and Evonne smirked.

She did not like Alaia's smart mouth but Alaia didn't like her comments, attitude, or mindset. Alaia figured it was to be expected since she grew up rich, from the burbs and she was technically a home wrecker.  Alaia never really got how they ended up together but left it alone since they were not only housing her but paying her tuition. Well, what they assumed to be it. Alaia had scholarships and had her father and stepmother really been interested they would know where the checks went let alone her major.

"I don't want to have the kids, but like I told you the offer still stands." Evonne said and Alan, her father interjected clearing his throat.

"So how's break been so far?" He asked knowing that his daughters had been insulted when he offered to adopt and raise his grandchildren.

That was a plan Evonne was all behind, babies without any hard work of pregnancy or labor.

The fact that it was a girl and a boy made it even better, a two-for-one.

Alaia had made sure that they understood that wasn't happening.

Of course, she had the tuition checks but she had been saving, even before she had moved there and got a job. She was sure she had enough to hold her over for at least two six months and after maternity leave and she was sure she would be able to maintain or at least she hoped so.

In the meanwhile, there she sat with a chubby face and a swollen stomach.

"Good, I mean maybe I should have gone home to visit mom." She said and Alan could see the two women exchanging glances.

"No, no. It's been a while since I have seen you let alone a holiday together." He said as he ate.

The food was definitely not appeasing as Alaia looked down at her plate.

She didn't get how Evonne had a meal catered and it was still terrible.

"You said you're plan on going back for Christmas  if so maybe I can come and help with the twins?" Alan offered.

"I'm hopin to have them back home." She admitted and Evonne scoffed.

"What?" Alaia turned.

Her pregnancy left her with an extremely short temper.

"You giving birth in the ghetto, sure. I mean I guess it can't get more natural than that." Evonne said and Alaia dropped her fork.

"What did you just say to me?" She looked at her and Alan knew that look, simply because it was the look India gave him when he said he was leaving her for another woman.

"She didn't mean-" He tried but Evonne finished her glass of wine.

"No, I meant it like that." She said looking at her as she stood up.
