CW: Mentions of childbirth, hospital stuff, no gory details though. Mostly sweet stuff with a teeny bit of angst/worry, brief mentions of smutty stuff, but nothing explicit this time.

Oli and Mia climbed into the car and sped off towards the hospital. It had taken Oli a few attempts to get through to Josh but he said they had gotten her straight in and he'd update them when they got there. It was only a ten minute drive and they asked at reception for directions to the delivery suite, the receptionist pointing them towards the stairs and telling them to follow the signs.

Mia and Oli rushed up to the floor and found Sam already there, chewing his nails and pacing.

"Sam!" Mia called out and greeted him with a hug and he updated them on what was going on.

"Josh called me saying Lisa would want me here too," Sam began. "She's gone straight through and she's definitely in labour, but that's all I know. Josh was panicking so much, but the nurses were great and kept him calm."

Oli and Mia nodded and they all sat down in the waiting area, trying to distract one another by talking about how their Christmases had been. Sam had stayed with his parents for a few days over the main holiday, but had been at home to pack for his upcoming tour with Bad Omens when he got the call.

"Well maybe this little one might be the one to break the stubbornness in the family!" Mia joked.

"I thought the same thing," Sam chuckled. "Obviously it couldn't wait to meet its cool uncle Sam!"

The three of them chuckled and continued chatting and a few minutes later, the main door to the delivery suite opened and a very flustered Josh appeared, hugging Oli and Mia as he greeted them.

"She's doing great," Josh confirmed and the three friends breathed a simultaneous sigh of relief. "I was worried it was too early still, but they said 37 weeks is still considered full term, but they've given her steroids to boost the baby's lungs just in case."

"That sounds really positive, mate," Oli assured him, giving his shoulder an affectionate squeeze. "We're right here, whatever you need."

The door to the delivery suite swung open again and a smiling midwife appeared.

"Josh?" She called out as he spun to face her. "She's at eight centimetres and is calling for you."

"Shit!" Josh ran his hands through his hair and turned back to Oli and Mia. "Thanks for being here, I can't even begin to-"

"Josh? Just go!" Mia laughed. "We're going nowhere!"

Josh offered them both a terrified, straight-lipped nod as he followed the midwife back through the doors.

Sam had been just off to one side and had heard everything so the three friends took it in turns to grab coffees etc for the next few painfully slow hours. The clock seemed to tick by so slowly and at five minutes to midnight, it was Sam's turn to do the latest coffee run.

"Is it wrong for me to dislike this kid already?" Oli mused quietly and Mia spun to him in shock.

"What the fuck, Oli?!" She squealed. "Why would you even say something like that?"

"I didn't mean it seriously," Oli replied, shaking his head bemusedly and nodding towards the clock. "Just this isn't quite what I had in mind for seeing in the new year."

Mia rolled her eyes and breathed out a sigh of relief.

"Oh thank god!" She gasped, pressing her hand to her chest and laughing. "I thought you had some irrational problem with babies! But I guess you'll have to make it up to me at some point then."
