Waking up in her husband's arms again was something that just a few days ago, Mia didn't think she'd ever get to do again. He stirred underneath her as the morning light crept through the gap in their curtains, bathing them both in the softest glow. Despite them both being mortal now, they had decided to continue wearing the jewellery that had previously protected them from the sunlight and Mia swiped her thumb across the stone on Oli's ring as he lazily linked his fingers with hers.
"Mornin'," he grunted, his voice thick with sleep as his eyes flickered open slowly. "Sleep well, love?"
"Mmmm," Mia smiled, snuggling her face further into his chest. "Like a baby. But I always sleep better in your arms."
Oli let out a cute noise and pulled Mia closer to him, kissing the top of her head and letting out a deep sigh of contentment. They stayed like that peacefully for a little while longer before getting showered and having some breakfast together. Mia had to admit, it was very odd not having to add synth to their morning coffees, but it was also refreshing to be able to taste more of the roast.
A couple of hours later, they arrived at their friends' house to hugs, somewhat 'awkward' congratulations for not giving up on one another, as well as plenty of excited licks from Daisy. Oli instinctively took James from Josh's arms, cooing over him immediately as he and Mia settled into the living room with Lisa.
"Awwww you two!" Lisa cooed at them as they cuddled and made faces at her son. "I'll have to get Josh to get a picture of this, it's so adorable!"
Oli and Mia shared a smirk, stifling giggles, but not saying anything else as Josh came in with a tray of coffees. He placed the tray on the table and Mia reached out for one of the mugs, thanking Josh and immediately raising it to her lips.
"Wait!" Josh yelped, sounding somewhat panicked and grabbing the small bottle of red liquid set on the tray. "Fucking hell, Mia! You can't be forgetting your synth so soon after everything you two have been through!"
Mia bit her lip to try to stifle the giggles again, but she caught Oli's smirk and couldn't hold it in any longer, leaving Josh with more than a frown on his face.
"Anyway," Oli tried to redirect the conversation. "Lisa was saying just now about getting a picture of us with Jamie, but I think she should take it, don't you agree Mia?"
"Oh that's a brilliant idea!" Mia giggled and clapped her hands together, turning back to Lisa who narrowed her eyes at her friend.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Lisa huffed. "I said Josh should do it since you know I can't see it properly. Might as well get Jamie to take a selfie for all the use I'll be taking it!"
Mia glanced up at Josh who was still frowning, flicking his gaze from the bottle of synth still clutched in his fingers to his friends and back again. She could practically see the cogs ticking in his head and slowly, the frown dropped from his face, his eyes widening in realisation.
"Oh wow!" Josh gasped. "I think they're right, Lis. You're the only one who can capture this perfect moment for them!"
Lisa grumbled more, snatching the phone from Josh as he handed it to her and muttering under her breath. "Whatever, but don't complain when it's blurry. I just wanted you guys to have a nice picture with Jamie but-" Her words caught in her throat as she looked at the perfectly clear picture of the two of them with her son through the screen. She turned the device over in her hands as if searching for evidence of it being tampered with.
