"park haeun, this is unacceptable." her mother placed a file, specifically her report card, in front of haeun who stared at it blankly, raising her gaze from the paper to her mother that was rubbing her temples in frustration.
it was probably the worst day ever, the day haeun feared the most, the day she receives her report card. haeun knows damn well that she's bad at nearly everything despite the extra hours of study she does during the night. she knows that she was really on the edge this year and that it's a miracle that she passed, so she wasn't surprised when she saw her below average grades.
the thing that worried her was her mother's reaction.
growing up in a family of successful lawyers, haeun always felt the pressure of being perfect on her shoulders, and it got so bad to the point that she exploded and had to go to therapy because of the scar stress left inside her mind. no matter how hard she tries though, things just don't go her way.
"these grades just aren't it. i asked you multiple times if you needed help studying and you always said you were fine, but these grades aren't telling me the same thing."
"you can't go on like this haeun, that why i asked the new boy to tutor you." haeun's jaw metaphorically dropped to the ground in shock as soon as those words escaped her mother's lips, standing from her chair in a jolt as it slid backwards to protest against what her ears just processed.
"i don't need a tutor mom! i'm too old—"
"stop making such a fuss. jungwon is a top student with honors and he was kind enough to take hours out of his days to tutor you, so you better work hard and repay me with nice grades."
< ♡ >
"this is unbelievable." haeun told herself as she harshly tapped a small brush under her eye to smooth out the concealer in front of the mirror, a few lights on the sides of the reflecting surface giving her a better view of what she needed to cover up.
the day she had to start her tutoring sessions finally arrived, and despite being nearly a week ago, haeun still hasn't accepted that she's getting a tutor at her age. she doesn't need it, it will do nothing but waste her time that she could spend laying on her bed.
he doesn't even go in the same school as her, what can he know about the things she has to study?
the girl set the brush down and opened her eyeshadow palette, getting some powder on her digit and spreading it on her closed eye before angrily applying her mascara.
she has been struggling for years with her studies, but her mom decided to call a tutor now? it would have been smarter if she did it three years ago.
if she did it three years ago, haeun would have passed this year with excellent grades.
"haeun! jungwon is here!" she sighed in defeat as she set the lid back on on top of the setting spray, leaving it on the sink top before turning off the lights and walking towards the door of her room.
she opened it with a blank stare, too annoyed to even fake a nice smile to him like last time. he stood there, a genuine grin on his naturally tinted lips as he waved his hand at the girl in front of him. "hey haeun."
he was definetly more composed compared to the last and only time she saw him, hair now straightened and brushed, exposing his forehead just right. his clothes had changed, wearing a kakhi sweater with a zip on the top part and dark grey jeans as a bottom, looking more stylish compared to when he was wearing his pajama.
and haeun still can't deny that he looks even more ethereal when composed and neat.
yang jungwon was undeniably handsome, but his goody-two-shoes personality just hurts her nerves.
"hey jungwon." haeun walked away from the door and sat on the comfortable chair in front of her study desk, leaving the door nearly shut as he opened it himself and then closed it behind his body.
"before we start, can i see your report card?" jungwon took a seat beside her with a closed mouth grin, looking around to familiarize with her room as he's gonna see it everyday from now on. it was pretty, and the led lights with a white shade as a chandelier was such a smart idea.
haeun grabbed the paper inside a folder that contained all her report cards, placing it in front of him before resting her back against the seat and crossing her arms on her chest with a bothered sigh. call her rude, but it sounds ridiculous to her that someone her age is tutoring her.
the situation is bad, really bad actually. he knew that her grades weren't the best and that's why she was getting a tutor, but he never imagined that it would be this bad. only two subjects weren't insufficient, and they were really just high enough to pass. she should thank the heavens that she managed to get through this year.
"okay then, let's start with math."
