"no way haeun, you've gotta be kidding me." kim jiwon spoke from the other side of the phone, grabbing a chip from a bag of chips that was somewhat visible on her camera and bringing it to her lips. "there's no way you have a tutor now."
haeun just ignored her friend and continued scribbling on her paper, moving the desk lamp in front of her a little bit higher to see better what she was writing, left side of her head on the desk as a strand of hair fell right on her chin. she had already repeated several times the situation she was in, so she knew she didn't have to bother repeating another time.
"what are you doing anyways?" naoi rei questioned after she noticed her focused face, lips pursed in concentration and chestnut eyes pinned on her paper, as she brought a black straw to her coral lips to drink her coffee latte. "homeworks."
"but we don't have homeworks?" jiwon tilted her head in confusion, taking her phone from the counter she placed it on and brought it closer to her face to check if their teachers uploaded anything she wasn't aware of, giving the two a nice view of her nose as rei bursted into a laugh.
"no jiwon, he left me homeworks. the tutor." the raven gasped audibly and she immediately placed the phone back to its original place, hand instantly flying to cover her mouth as soon as she did so. there's no way this tutor of hers acted like a teacher and thought he could just give her homeworks from a day to another.
"he just thinks he has the rights to do that? it's called summer break because we should be stress free." the japanese girl reasoned out, crossing her arms on her chest visibly annoyed as if she was the one that was still up at 1 am and was doing math homeworks for a few hours later.
"well, it's not that bad considering i "should thank the heavens i passed" according to him." haeun mimicked two quotation marks as the two gasped for air at the same exact time in shock, the blonde leaning closer to the screen while jiwon started shaking her head like a disappointed mother.
"he said that? no haeun, quit this shit. he's toxic as fuck." the raven told her friend with a hint of disbelief in her tone. she can't believe that this dude had the audacity to tell her friend who is clearly struggling with her studies something like this. it's not like he was smarter tha einstein or something.
"relax jiwon. it's seriously nothing. beside, regarding my grades, this is one of the nicest things they ever told me."
dead silence was the only thing you could hear from all the sides of the call, both girls going completely quiet once that sentence slipped past haeun's lips. grades has always been a nearly sensitive topic between them, as every time one of them would get a really high grade, haeun would either barely pass or not pass at all. and then she would remind herself how her mother back at home would tell her that she wasn't trying hard enough and that she was a failure.
"did your mom... say something?" rei broke the silence with a delicate tone in her voice, wanting to sound as caring as possible when talking about this. she knew haeun deeply felt disappointed in herself for bringing shame to a family of such respectable lawyers.
"yeah." haeun took her eraser from her pencil case, gently rubbing it on the paper to delete a wrong calculation and immediately correcting it before it could slip away from her mind.
"but can we talk about something else?" the raven nodded instantly, staring blankly at the table in front of her before lightly jointing from her seat as she realized what she initially wanted to tell her friends.
"well i met a boy here." jiwon announced grabbing their attention, holding back a smile as she thought about him again but failing to do so as she started squealing and tapping her feet on the ground. "and i think i have a crush on him."
safe to say, that night, instead of doing the homeworks jungwon assigned her for the next day, haeun spent her time listening to her fiends' stories about their vacations.
