Chapter 10: A night out

   As it was finally the weekend, Josh and the girls headed to the bowling alley for some fun. Josh wasn't sure it was a good idea for him to be in public, but the girls were persistent anyway. As Kindle parked the car, they all headed inside and went to the front counter to register for a lane and some bowling shoes.

"Don't be nervous Josh, it's going to be fun." Miranda says as she ruffles his hair a little.

"I know, it's just some people staring at me." Josh spoke.

"Just ignore them. They are just jealous." Cathy says as she grabs their bowling shoes.

  They all headed to their bowling lane as they sat down and put on their bowling shoes. It was Kindle's turn first as she grabs a bowling ball from the rack and rolls it down the lane. The pins made a clashing sound as she made an instant strike.

"Nice!" Miranda complemented as she took her turn.

  As Miranda bowled, she only took down most of the pins and had a seven-ten split. Cathy and Josh quietly laughed until Miranda turned her head at them. She grabbed her ball and tried to see if she could get the split.

  She focuses and thinks deeply and rolls the ball down. Unfortunately she only got one pin. As it was finally Josh's turn. He got up and grabbed a ball from the rack and thought for a minute. He bowled and instantly made a strike of slamming all the pins out of the way and instantly shocked Miranda as Kindle and Cathy clapped for him.

"Awesome Josh." Cathy's complement.

"Ah, beginner's luck." Josh joked as he sat down.

  As it was Cathy's turn, she got up and grabbed a bowling ball and rolled it down the lane fast and only got nine out of ten pins.

"Nice." Josh complemented.
  Cathy then did her second bowl and was able to make a spare on the frame. During the game, it's been a competitive competition between Kindle and Josh since they kept making strikes and kept being tied to see who will win. MIranda and Cathy were behind but tried to keep up with them.

  As it was finally the 10th frame, Kindle made two strikes in a row and missed a couple on her third bowl which was almost a perfect game.Miranda scored 175. It was finally Josh's turn and he instantly made two strikes and was ready for his final turn on the tenth frame as he waited for the pins to set up.

  He hesitated and sweated a little as he rolled the ball down the lane, he made one more strike and made a perfect 300 score and he won the game. The girls were impressed, mostly Kindle since it was a close game. Some of the spectators that watched him even complimented Josh, no matter that he was a human.

As their food arrived, they took a break and started chowing down and having a conversation.

"How are you that good at bowling?" Miranda asked.

"It just grew on me. It was my first time playing it." Josh answers before he takes a bite of his burger.

"First time? You just did a perfect game on your first time." Cathy says.

"Anything can happen." Josh says.

  After they ate, Cathy needed to use the restroom real quick and after she did her business, a couple of male Foxes stopped her as they tried to flirt with her.

"Hey there honey, you want to bowl with us?" One of them asked.

"No, thanks for the offer. I need to get back with my friends." She says as she was about to walk away.

  But just then, the Fox grabbed her by the forearm and said, "Oh come on, don't be shy. We do need a girl to hang with us and you are hot."

"Please let go of me." She says as she tugged her arm a little to get free.

"Just quit being ungrateful and let us have fun with you." The other Fox says as he pulled her back hard.

"Stop! Let go!" Cathy says as she starts to struggle.

  As she started to get free, one of the foxes smacked her hard in the face which made her fall to the floor.

"You fucking bitch. You are ungrateful just like any other girl we know." The fox says as he was about to smack her.

"Hey!" A male voice from a distance.

She noticed it was Josh and knew that this was not going to go well.

"What do you want no-fur?! Can't you see we're busy here?!" The fox asked.

"Yeah, go mind your business elsewhere?" The other Fox says as he grabs Cathy by the hair.

  Josh saw what they were doing to her which really set his anger and rage off that he won't let them get away with hurting Cathy. He then grabbed one of the Foxes by the neck and smashed his head through the crane machine.

"Jared! I'll kill you no-fur!" The other fox says as he went at Josh.

  Josh took a punch in the stomach but was unfazed by it and gave the fox a painful uppercut under the snout which caused the fox to fall onto a table. The other fox got his head out of the crane machine and was about to attack Josh with a pocket knife. Fortunately Josh noticed and dodged fast as the fox tried to stab him. He then grabbed the fox's arm and snapped it in half to make him drop the knife and then threw him down a bowling line that the fox slid down and crashed into the pins.

Josh then went to Cathy and helped her up

"Are you okay?" He asked with concern.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Thank you Josh." Cathy says as she gave Josh a kiss on the cheek which made him blush.

  After the fight, the police were called and arrested the two foxes that tried to take advantage of Cathy and what Josh did for her kinda earned him respect from the bystanders since he did a deed of saving for who he cared.

  They then continued having fun for the night until the bowling alley closed for the night and they headed back home. The girls were exhausted and so was Josh as he headed to his room and laid down on his bed. Just then Cathy knocked on the door and came in with her nightgown on which made Josh blush easily.

"Oh uh, hey," He said nervously.

"Hey. Is it alright if I sleep with you tonight Josh? I'm nervous about sleeping by myself after what happened at the bowling alley." Cathy explains.

"Oh sure. That will be fine." Josh answers nervously.

  Cathy smiles and gets into bed with him as she tries to get comfortable. Josh then turns off the lamp and tries to sleep, but notices that Cathy hugged onto him which made him not feel alone and started to have some emotional feelings towards her.

  During the night, Josh was having one of his weird dreams again of his past before the extinction of humanity and started to remember more about it. He remembered a little that when he was six, all the countries were at war for dominance and the use of nuclear weapons. And started to remember a little more of civilians being evacuated and taken to different bunkers as explosions of cities getting destroyed. 

  He woke instantly by a jolt and took a deep breath as he knew that it was only a dream and still felt Cathy hugging him that he easily fell back to sleep as he tried to get comfortable. He hopes that life he has now will be better for him in the future.
