Metrojet Flight 9268, registered as Echo India- Echo Tango Juliet (EI-ETJ), was an international chartered passenger flight operated by the Russian airliner Kogalymavia (which was branded as Metrojet), on the 31st of October 2015, at 06:13am local time EST (Egypt Standard Time, 04:13am UTC), an Airbus A321-231 operating the flight exploded above the northern Sinai Peninsula following it's departure from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (IATA: SSH, ICAO: HESH), Egypt, it was on a flight to Pulkovo Airport (IATA: LED, ICAO: ULLI), Saint Petersburg, Russia, all 224 people on board the plane were killed in the crash.
The Egyptian Civilian Aviation Ministry issued a statement that indicated that the flight was at an altitude of 31,000 feet when it disappeared from radar screens after a steep descent of 5,000 feet in one minute, FlightRadar24 shows the aircraft climbing to 33,500 feet at 748 kilometres per hour before suddenly descending to 28,375 feet at 115 kilometres per hour approximately 50 kilometres northeast of Nekhel, Egypt, after which it's position was no longer tracked.
A bomb exploded in the aircraft which caused an uncontrolled decompression and the aircraft disintegrated in mid-air, wreckage was scattered over 20 square kilometres, with the forward section about 5 kilometres from the tail section which indicated that the aircraft broke apart in mid-flight, aerial images of the wreckage was broadcasted on RT (Russian Today) indicated that the wings were intact until impact with the ground, the aircraft's tail separated during the flight and fell separately.
The summary of the crash was a Terrorist bombing by Islamic State's Sinai Branch.
