ČSA Flight 540, registered as Oscar Kilo- Delta Bravo Foxtrot (OK-DBF), was a regularly scheduled international passenger flight from Václav Havel Airport (IATA: PRG, ICAO: LKPR), Prague, Czech Republic to Mehrabad International Airport (IATA: THR, ICAO: OIII), Tehran, Iran, via Damascus International Airport (IATA: DAM, ICAO: OSDI), Damascus, Syria and Baghdad International Airport (IATA: BGW, ICAO: ORBI), Baghdad, Iraq, the flight was operated by an Ilyushin II-62 Brno Trade Fair, the plane was on approach to Runway 23R at Damascus International Airport on the 20th of August 1975, the plane was descending in clear weather when it crashed 17 kilometres (11 miles) from the airport, the aircraft broke up and caught fire on impact; 126 out of the 128 people on board were killed in the accident, the crash is Syria's worst ever air disaster and it's also the worst air disaster for the airline.

The cause of the crash was determined to be the flight crew's failure to maintain the minimum flight altitude.
