ripple effect // haobin

it was almost as if the two had been staring at each other waiting for one to speak up, but only one was actually capable of speaking. he reached down and grabbed the carrier bringing the child into his apartment. he didn't know how to take care of a kid? he barely even knew how to get by himself.

the baby became fussy, probably hungry, causing hanbin to panic. "why are you crying so much" he said pouting wiping the baby's tears. it was hanbins soft touch to the child's cheek that made it calm down, looking at him with large brown doe eyes. hanbin was shocked, how did he just get the baby to stop crying with a small gesture? he wasn't sure. he figured he must call someone to let them know about this. 

"mom, i have a slight problem" he starts, "did something happen to the company? are you okay? im here for you" she started sounding nervous. "no, mom i'm okay.. and so is the company.. my problem is I have some company of my own" he said looking at the small child playing with its thumbs. "what do you mean hanbin-ah?" she asked. "this is going to sound crazy but I opened my door and found a literal child outside in a carrier, im not sure what to do, how can i even be a dad?!" he started to pace. "now who said you're gonna be a dad, maybe we should bring the baby to the police station with the note?" she insisted. the child looked up at hanbin with a small pout as if it could understand what his mom just said.

"But mom the note said that the parents didn't want to be parents anymore, who is going to take care of the baby? i don't want her to go foster care, you know what happens there" he said frowning. "i'll come over and we can talk about what to do when i get there," she said as she grabbed her stuff rushing to her car and to her son's apartment.

hanbin picked up the small carrier and placed it on the couch, "im sure you're uncomfortable" he said unbuckling the small straps and picking the child up, placing her in his arms and playing with her hair. "who wouldn't want a cute button like you" he said as he poked her nose. she laughed in response and hanbin's eyes lit up. "i have no clue what to do with you" he sighed and put his head back. even though the baby couldn't talk it was almost as if it was listening to hanbin speak and responding with its eyes. 

he heard a small knock on the door and picked the baby up off his lap to go open the door. he opened the door to someone he was not expecting to see. 

hao had been thinking a lot about his talk with hanbin. he had grown interested in becoming closer to the younger, and possibly becoming good friends. he had decided he would bring some fruits over to the younger as a thank you gift for taking care of him and getting him home safely. he had lived over a fruit store that sold different fruit arrangements for each holiday, thats how he got the idea of course. he grabbed his bag and walked downstairs toward the fruit store, when he arrived he was hit with the smell of sweet strawberries and chocolate. "good morning sir, what may i get for you?" the worker smiled, hao had decided that hanbin seemed like the kind of guy who enjoyed strawberries. "i'll take 6 chocolate covered strawberries, and could you wrap it pretty for me?" he smiled. "oh must be for someone special" she smiled and winked at the boy, "well yes" he said as he felt a slight blush raise across his face.

hao walked out of the store with the small blue box that held the fruits, he wasn't necessarily too sure where hanbin lived but he had a general direction. he walked towards the building where he saw hanbin's car parked outside of. he entered the building where he was greeted by a small lady at the counter, "hello sir, how may i help you today?" she asked seeing the boy who clearly looked confused of his surroundings. "i was hoping to find my friends apartment, his name is sung hanbin" he said lightly. "oh yes, he is located on the 4th floor in apartment 1" she handed him a pass for the elevator. he bowed and thanked her as he made his way to the elevator. he was nervous, he wasn't sure how his act of service would be taken, but he wanted to let the younger know he appreciated it. 

he quickly found the apartment and knocked lightly on the door. he was shocked when the door opened.

"hao?!" hanbin said with a slightly awkward smile, "um, hi i'm sorry am i interrupting something?" he said looking at the baby in hanbins hands. "oh not at all! i was just expecting to see my mom she's also on her way here" he reassured the boy, "come in!" he opened the door a bit wider as hao took a step in.

hao was confused, he had no clue that hanbin was a dad. he seemed to be so focused on his work and schooling that he didn't even give the slightest bit that he was a dad. "well, i just wanted to get you something as a thank you for getting me home last night" he said as he watched hanbin place the baby down into the carrier. "oh? you didn't have to!! but i thank you" he smiled taking the small box and opening it. 

hanbins face lit up when he saw what was inside the box, how did he know hanbin's favorite fruit was strawberries? he was a secret genius. "thank you so much!" he said patting hao on the shoulder. "you're welcome i hope you enjoy them, now if you'd like I'll leave you two to whatever father-daughter day you were going to have" he smiled. hanbin looked up at the elder almost in shock, "oh! this isn't my daughter" he said laughing. hao's face grew red, he probably shouldn't have just assumed but who wouldn't. "oh well is she your niece or something?" he said as he scratched his neck in embarrassment. "no, it's a long story but i found her outside my door not even an hour ago with a note saying her parents didn't want her anymore" he sighed and walked over to her patting her head. 

"that's terrible," hao said with a pout on his face, "so what are you going to do with her?" he said concerned. "well I'm not sure, i don't want to have her thrown into the adoption agency but i also am not ready to take care of a child," he said. "well if it makes you feel better, she already seems like shes comfortable with you" hao smiled patting the youngers back. hanbin smiled lightly, he was stressed, but hao's comment warmed his heart. 

"i wonder what her name is".
