~ Liz's P.O.V ~
The next morning, I decided to go to the person that understands me best: Darry.
Luckily, and surprisingly, he was the only one awake at twelve-thirty in the afternoon. He hadn't even noticed me walk in while he was making some breakfast in the kitchen. I didn't bother to dress up like usual, today I wore lounge pants with a white t-shirt and some sneakers with my hair thrown up in a messy bun, so it was pretty easy to sneak up on him.
I gripped his sides from behind, which resulted in Darry jumping five feet in the air.
"Jesus Christ, you scared me!" He panted, holding his hand to his chest.
"Yeah, well I kinda figured that when you jumped in the air. I need to talk to you about something, Dar." I fidgeted nervously, unsure of how to go about this.
"Is it Dallas?"
"How'd you know?"
"He came to me last night about your problem. It's all right, I won't yell at you." He smiled, placing the stack of chocolate pancakes on the dining room table.
"I just don't know what to do, Darry. He thinks I was unfaithful to him, and it really hurts that he thinks I would cheat on him. I love him, Dar." I sighed, staring into Darry's icy-blue eyes.
"Well, you gotta put yourself in Dal's shoes, doll. He's had a rough life, he feels like he can't trust anyone. My suggestion is to give him some time to think everything out, and he'll come to you when he's ready."
"You know Dallas, he holds grudges and there's no doubt that it could be months before he decides to talk to me again." I pouted, slouching.
"Well, if it's gonna be months, so be it. You gotta do what you gotta do, Elizabeth."
I stood up and wrapped Darry in a hug. His muscled arms grabbed mine as he leaned into me and kissed my forehead, "Just give things time."
"And ugh, Darry?" I asked apprehensively.
"Yeah?"
"What's your opinion on the Socs?"
I really wanted to know how he felt about this subject. After all, he is the oldest of us all.
He sat silently for a minute, I thought he'd just ignored my question until he spoke up, "You know, I would've been one if I'd gone to college."
I knew that our family struggled with money, but I didn't think it was that serious. Suddenly I felt really bad that Darry couldn't do what he wanted in life because of money struggles. I could've helped them all, and the thought of my own shallowness shadowed over me like a demon rising from it's small cage.
"I don't think the Socs are bad and all, I used to be buddies with some of them. People forget that they're humans just like us, and I think they forget it sometimes, too. You just get caught up in what everyone tells you and you start to feel vulnerable, but you can't let that show around a town like this one. I think that's why the Socs are the way they are. I've been there, back when I was in high school." He smiled honestly, taking another piece off his pancakes.
I stole a bite before he could notice and plopped on the couch, closing my eyes before everyone woke up and started running around. I rested for a good 10 minutes before the door slammed shut, signalling the arrival of... Two, Johnny, and Steve.
"What's up girl? Dal told us about your little problem going on." Two-Bit sat on the floor, facing me.
"Yeah, what's up with that? I'll say, you need to stick to one guy to keep him." Steve snarled.
Something about Steve really threw me off. Either he liked you or he didn't, and I don't think he's too fond of me. He's always the one to make the comment that pisses me off, but I guess that's just the way Steve is. I pretended to like him because he was Soda's best friend, and keeping people around gives me more people to turn to when I need it.
"Excuse me? What the fuck is wrong with you? So, you're just gonna automatically assume that whatever the hell Dallas told you is true? Why, because he said it? Jesus, people need to stop assuming shit before they speak." I shot back, infuriated.
The house became dead silent as we all sat there, their eyes wide with shock. I gave a half-smile to Johnny who returned it, and I diverted my eyes to the floor. The floor seemed to be interesting nowadays.
I bet Dallas is off somewhere, trying to start fights and jumping people and picking on little kids. Giving him time is going to be hard, I can barely stop thinking about him...

"I'm real sorry that Steve had 'ta go on and say that to ya, Liz. You didn't deserve that." Johnny said, his hands shoved in his pockets.
I was walking down a random road with Johnny and Pony at my sides. Smiling at him, I ran my fingers through his long hair lightly.
"C'mon boys, lighten up! There are better things to do in this world besides be sad!" I encouraged.
I like encouraging these two, they've got a lot of innocence. I suppose not Johnny, he's seen things nobody wants to, and he's the same age as Soda, but if I can guide him in the right direction then I'm doing my part.
"What are we doing, Liz?" Pony's green-gray eyes scanned the streets.
"We're just killing time Pony. Don't sweat anything. We have each other's backs, right?"
They both nodded their heads and continued walking with me to wherever.
