~ Liz's P.O.V. ~
"So how's school going for you guys?" I asked, making small-talk.
Both Pony and Johnny groaned at my question, "Really? A school question? That's lame."
"I was just trying to make small-talk, we can talk about anything!" I laughed.
"Alright, how 'bout you and Dally? He seemed angry yesterday when he came over. I assumed it had to do with the two of you." Johnny rushed his sentences, catching his breath after finishing.
"How could you know, Johnny?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Well, he only talked to Darry outside on the porch and left after that. Not a word to the rest of us."
"In that case, yeah we did have a little argument. I don't know when he'll talk to me again." My voice cracked as I kept my vision focused on the road ahead of us to keep from tearing up.
"Aw, you ain't gotta cry on us like that, things'll be fine."
Johnny may be a bit shy, but he's real good with words when he wants to be.
"You sure, Jon?"
"Yeah, just let Dally cool off a bit, he'll come around. Dal's crazy about ya, he asked for you yesterday last night." He reassured before Pony cut in.
"You and Dal are gonna be just fine. You were fine together when everyone didn't want you to be together. The only people stopping you two from being together is you and Dal."
I blinked my joyful tears away as I grabbed both of them with my arms, "Ugh, my boys! You're so grown! Except Pony, he's still fourteen."
He gave me a playfully angry expression as I continued to tease him, only making me happier.
All the happiness stopped as we heard yelling from around the corner. Darting towards the noise, we saw a really huge Soc fighting two greasers, one with slick hair and the other with long, soft hair. My eyes widened as I noticed Dal's Christopher on his hand.
Jesus Christ, Dallas, what am I gonna do with you...
"You guys," I whispered, "that's Dal fighting over there."
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Johnny lift something from his back pocket.
"Johnny, is the blade a good choice right now?" I started before there was a loud yelp and the pounding of shoes on concrete.
Dallas and some other guy ran in our direction. My eyes met Dal's and, though he was getting closer, he stopped in his tracks. Frantically shifting his eyes between Johnny, Pony, and I, he began freaking out.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?!?!"
"We were on a walk, and-"
"There's no time for this, c'mon!"
We began running to catch up with Dallas, and it seemed like a lifetime before we actually slowed down and stopped. The four (well, five) of us had stopped in front of Buck's place, each catching our breath.
"Dal, I'll catch you tonight!" The random guy said, before strutting off into the sunset.
We followed Dallas upstairs into his small place, him locking the door after we all filed in. I didn't have the will to look him in his hardened, fiery eyes, so I kept my vision on the room, which managed to look worse than when I'd left it only two days ago.
"Why didn't you guys keep walking? If the cops would've drove by, you'd all get hauled in for just standing there. What's she doing with you?"
Dallas said 'she' in a cold, bitter tone that made me flinch. He's never been this way, not since the day we met. I no longer had the power to speak, as my mind thought of plenty things to say, I just couldn't form the right words.
