Nat sat there for a bit when a young attractive woman walked into the tavern. There was no mistaking who she was. Gen Green, who despite her name, could not see the colour green. Gen was lucas' and Nat's other friend in high school. Together they were a trio of rich, minus Nat, popular kids. She had always been the nicer of the three, so there was no shock when she split off from them once Lucas and Nat had become obsessed with making their own country and ruling everyone. On top of that Lucas had confessed his love to her and she declined, making the relationship even more strained.
"Warren~? I brought your lunch!" Gen brought Warren lunch? Nat was once again very confused. Warren walked out from the back, menu in hand, his tired and uninterested expression replaced by a more lively one, well, as lively you can look when you seem to not have slept in two weeks. The two embrace each other, then kiss. Nat sits there in utter shock. Gen had been one of the most attractive women she had ever seen. Long wavy brown hair, beautiful eyes, one blue and the other brown. She had perfect skin apart from the freckles dotting her cheeks and perfect nose. Now here she was, looking stunning with the same heart patterned handkerchief she wore in high school tied atop her head. Here she was, kissing a dishevelled, skinny man, who looks like he's ill. Nat was almost jealous.
Warren takes a bag from Gen and walks over to Nats table, setting down the menu, now looking very uncomfortable. Gen follows behind and practically squeals when she realises who Nat is. She pulls Nat out of her seat and hugs her tightly, extremely excited to see her. Nat pulls away from Gen. "Gen-! It's so good to see you, you look great!" She wanted to run. What would she think of her now? She worked with Lucas through all of his tyranny. "Thank you! But watch out, I have a boyfriend now-." Gen says jokingly, though there probably is some seriousness to it. "Yeah, I can see that." The conversation goes silent while Warren walks away before he's dragged into another awkward conversation. "So what are you doing all the way out here, shouldn't you be with Lucas? Nat shakes her head, almost embarrassed that Gen knows Nat worked for him.
Gen sits down, realising that this might be awhile. "He...he's lost himself completely. He's not our Lucas anymore. I just couldn't stand by while he destroyed himself. He's planning something big, Gen, I have to warn the queen." Warren comes back for a moment and takes Nat's order before leaving again. "So, let me get this straight, you ran away from your abusive boyfriend who thinks he is the reincarnation of a god?" Gen says. She really didn't change or grow up after all these years. "I'm serious Gen-!" Nat begins to raise her voice, causing people to stare. Gen falls silent.(506 words)
