Lucas was angry, furious in fact. His subjects turned on him, revolted, and left him to rot in exile. Now Nat, his best friend, is telling him to move on? To forget what happened? To forget how he was ripped off his throne that he had fought so hard for and deserved more than anyone? No, he wouldn't move on, he wouldn't let them get away with the humiliation they caused him. He wanted revenge.
Lucas and his close friend Carter had begun to devise a plan to seize the throne from the new Queen, Nikki Roman. That's where Carter came in, he was appointed Captain of the new royal guard and became awfully close to Queen Roman. Ms.Roman had started the uprising that had eventually led to the young king's downfall, now he would exile her just as she did to him. He would make her feel the isolation and shame that he has been tormented by.
Nat tried to reason with her friend, but Lucas was far to gone. He had become enamoured with the idea of revenge, pacing around his room, incoherently speaking to seemingly no one, and having angry outbursts. Nat watched idly as her closest friend spiralled into madness, stuck in the past and engulfed by hate. Nat knew it would not end well if Lucas came to the throne once more. Lucas sought revenge, not only on Nikki Roman, but all who ever opposed him. He would not let bygones be bygones, and he would not stop until everyone bent completely to his will. Lucas would tear people apart, rip children from their families, and cause suffrage, all in the name of 'revenge'.
Nat was left with a choice, to stick by her friend as he destroyed all in his path, or to leave lucas and warn the people, to betray him. Nat had learned from others past mistakes that it was no easy task to escape Lucas. Lucas was extremely possessive and would not let Nat leave him so easily. If she tried to run now, she could face the same fate that the country would if she didn't warn them. Nat felt stuck, she couldn't change the past, but here she had a chance to change the future. Millions of people's fates were in her hands.
She decided to risk it all. Nat left that night and did not look back. She would save these people, or die trying. Lucas awoke not long after the escape, heading to Nat's room. He had begun to feel bad for lashing out at his friend, but when he opened the door and found no one there, any guilt he had vanished. Lucas was thrown into a panic, he must be mistaken, Nat must be somewhere. His mind raced as he searched the house. The moment he realised that Nat had run away, his panic melted away, replaced by rage and hurt. How could this have happened again? How could he have driven away another one of his friends? Now there was no doubt in his mind on what he would do. All of the people close to him were betraying him, he couldn't trust anyone, not even Carter. He would do this all by himself. He would get revenge, not only on the country, but the whole world for wronging him.
