Jack explained his story to the two, telling them about how he had been cast aside by his sister, Queen Roman, and deemed unimportant and an illegitimate heir since they had different moms. This angered Jack, he was sick and tired of being forgotten, so he decided to meet his sister face to face and demand respect. The plan was solid, except he had not prepared properly for the differences in the sides of the country. He couldn't just go to a market and buy food anymore. The reason he said those things about monsters was because he wanted Nat to leave him alone, and he knew her past, so he acted. He apologised to Rhett, who gave him the cold shoulder. Nat explained their plan, and asked for Jack to come along. Jack of course agreed, and said that he could help them with getting an audience with the Queen. The trio continued walking. It amused Nat, the three of them, from three different worlds. A discarded prince, an ex-rebel, and a forest dweller. She was just glad that Rhett didn't pry more on what Jack said about her and Lucas...she doubts Rhett would trust her if he knew. They were so close, she almost didn't want to rest that night, but they stopped in a little meadow to take a break anyway. It wasn't long before Jack had passed out on the grass below them, whilst Nat and Rhett huddled by a small fire they had made. They both remained silent for some time, until Rhett spoke. "My parents...they- well,, My mother was taken away from me, by a tall human man...he just came to our house one day and ripped her away. My dad told me to hide under the bed and not to move one bit, so I didnt...there was so much screaming...when I finally came out from under the bed after what seemed like hours, my mother was gone and the house was trashed. My father was on the ground, I thought he had fallen asleep...he never woke up." Nat didn't say a word, and Rhett hugged his knees. Nat could hear Rhett begin to cry, so she grabbed him and brought him in for a hug. Rhett didn't let go of her the entire night, and eventually they fell asleep. The three of them woke up that morning and got back to the trail. This was it. They would reach the castle today. They would finish this. Nat could tell Jack was excited, but Rhett on the other hand, well, you'd think him blind on how hard it was to read him. The two of them had finally reached a middle ground, they had both experienced having the things you loved most stolen away...for that she was glad. But Nat couldn't help but worry for him. There wasn't much she could do though, she just had to keep walking. (494 words)
