CHAPTER 33: Realization

Akira's P.O.V.

"I didn't know you already liked someone else." Haru suddenly popped up beside me while I was sitting on the couch doing my school papers. I turned my eyes to him in a shocked state.

"N-Nani?" W-What?

"You like her, right?"

My mouth rifts a little. "What are you saying?" I asked, confused. Even though, I have a hunch.

He smiled as he looked away. "Why? Am I wrong?"

"Are you pertaining about... Leigh?"

"Yup," he answered while nodding.

"H-How—"

"It's quite obvious, Akira. Based on how you look at her. It's full of... emotion. Full of sincerity and love," he stated while his eyes fixated on nothingness.

I didn't dare to say anything. All I could do was to be silent and back my attention to what I was doing earlier. Haru knows me very well. Kaya hindi na ako nagtataka na nahalata niyang may feelings ako para kay Leigh.

"Yokatanne." Good for you.

I looked at him because of what he said. "Ha?"

Lumingon siya sa akin at ngumiti. "I'm glad you already found your happiness. I admit, I was wondering. But then, I realized... You can love anyone else. And I think... she likes you too."

Something pinched inside my left chest. Thinking about Leigh makes me feel so much hurt. Naalala ko no'ng nagpunta ako sa condo niya. I found out na siya pala 'yong batang babae noon na binigyan ko no'ng bracelet ko. I was so happy na siya pala 'yong batang 'yon. Pero alam ko rin naman na walang magbabago. I still hurt her. I love her, but I can do nothing. My life and my future have already been decided. And I don't have any power to change it.

"Yeah. We both love each other. Pero hanggang do'n lang 'yon. I'm still engaged to you, after all. Nasaktan ko siya. At wala akong magawa para mapawi 'yong sakit na nararamdaman niya," malungkot kong saad.

"We're not married yet. You can still oppose what your dad wants. It's not yet too late, anyway. You can still choose your happiness over your dad... selfishness," he spat out.

Bahagya akong natawa nang mahina. "As if, I could do something about it. You know my dad. He's the power. He can't let anything or anyone be a hindrance to his desire."

Sinimulan ko nang ayusin ang mga gamit ko dahil late na rin. Wala na rin akong narinig pa sa kaniya maliban sa pagbuntong-hininga.

"Anyway, I'll go ahead," paalam niya at tumayo.

Sinundan ko lang siya ng tingin saka ako napabuntong-hininga.

I'm walking with a heavy heart. Kung noon, excited ako laging pumasok because of her, ngayon naman ang bigat sa loob. Nasasaktan ako kapag nakikita ko siya. Alam ko kasing nasasaktan ko siya. Kung may magagawa lang sana ako... pero wala. Wala akong magawa.

"Akira!"

Napahinto ako sa paglalakad nang biglang may tumawag sa akin. Nilingon ko kung saan iyon nanggaling at nakita ko si Molly na papalapit.

"Molly. Good mo—"

PAK!

My eyes widened upon receiving a strong slap from her. I looked at her in confusion. "M-Molly? What was that all about? Why did you slap me?"

She took a deep breath. "Matagal ko nang gustong gawin 'to, eh. Ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng pagkakataon," madiin niyang tugon.

"Pero, bakit? Anong ginawa ko?" naguguluhan kong tanong habang hawak ko pa rin ang kaliwang pisngi kong sinampal niya.
