"Dex. You're staring." Marella whispered, grabbing my arm.

"Huh?" I asked, looking around wildly.

"Dexter Alvin Dizznee." She complained. "Were you even listening?"

"Uh, yeah." I turned my attention back to the irritated girl.

"Then what did I just say?"

"I'm hungry and I love broccoli?" I tried.

"I hate broccoli and you know that, you dimwit. Also, in case you haven't noticed, we're eating lunch right now. At least, me, Sophie, and Jensi are. You are staring at him."

"Am not." I felt my cheeks heat up.

"You so are." Marella popped a piece of chocolate into her mouth and tossed me the wrapper.

It landed in my hair, and I glared angrily and the blonde while searching through the tangled mess of strawberry blond curls to find the candy wrapper.

Sophie laughed at me. "Why don't you talk to him?"

"Why don't you talk to Keefe, then?" I grumbled.

She scowled. "That's different."

"How so?"

"Because I said so." Sophie huffed.

"Oh c'mon you guys!" Jensi grinned at all of us. "This is why I don't date. Way too much drama."

"That's not true!" Marella shouted, her mouth full of candy. "I've went on plenty of dates before, and they were good!"

"You broke up with them because they asked to try your vanilla pudding!"

"No one, and I repeat, no one takes my pudding!"

I was hardly paying attention, my eyes drifting across the room and landing on a specific boy that I may or may not have a crush on.

His hair was chocolate-brown and soft, and I wanted to run my fingers through it. His eyes were teal, like oceans and beaches and the sky mixed with forests and leaves. I knew they were contacts, but I would do anything to stare into those all day. His lips were soft and pink and perfectly kissable, his laugh echoing the room. His smile made me melt at the sight of it, his teeth perfectly white.

He was beautiful. So freaking beautiful. He had blemishes on his skin, but that didn't matter compared how pretty he was.

I leaned my hand on my palm and stared at him. He was talking with Maruca, one of his friends, intently listening to everything she was saying with a smile on his lips.

I wanted him to listen to me like that. I wanted him to laugh with me and smile with me and make that little face when he got mad, like a little pout.

I wanted him to be mine.

I'd met him four years ago, on a Tuesday morning. He was in one of my classes, math to be specific. We sat next to each other that very first day, and I remember his little wave as he sat down in the chair, neatly placing his backpack next to him.

I remember blushing, my palms sweating. I remember thinking I'd never seen such a beautiful person in my entire life.

He was just so pretty. I learned his name was Fitz, and when I went home that day, I had pulled out my notebook and wrote over and over again,
