Chapter 2 - How to Survive a dreadful party

﹏﹏﹏

Mia - Wednesday 12:02 AM

The party is in full swing as I slam the front door behind me and sit on the edge of the road in front of the house.

The beginning of September feels stifling, despite the late hour. Seeing everyone again has put me in a very good mood. Heather and I spent over an hour reminiscing about our summer, which made Anna extremely jealous for not being present.
I obviously caught glimpses of Austin several times, but I carefully avoided crossing paths with him all evening, confirming that tonight is a good night. I take a deep breath and look up at the stars.

I glance down at my phone and send a message to Cara, who disappeared early in the evening, supposedly to talk to Ethan, but in my opinion, they've already claimed a room upstairs. Poor Jace will have to change the sheets...

"You don't interest me at all, Austin. We'll see during the week how to arrange our schedule for the English group, OK?" He runs a hand through his blond hair and locks his gaze with mine. "OK," he starts to walk away, putting on his headphones, and adds,

"Have a good night, language partner."

"Oh, shut up!" I have to admit that this joke brings a smile to my face, and Austin notices it immediately. "But it seems that Carter CAN smile, ladies and gentlemen!" he starts laughing when something stops him abruptly. Or rather, someone.

A scream echoes.

The hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and recognizing the voice, I shout as I rush towards the source of the noise,
