Chapter 7 - " jealousy, jealousy strarting following me"

﹏﹏﹏

Mia - Sunday, 9:30 AM

The interviews with Jace and Max didn't reach conclusive results, except for confirming Allison and Heather's testimonies. I've been staring at my computer screen for what feels like an eternity. I've settled in the rocking chair in front of the house, observing the few cars passing by on the street.

I need to go see Eddie.

The problem is that once again, my father needs the car today, and his house is so far up north on the island that taking the bus or walking there would take me the whole day. A honk interrupts my daydreaming, and I look up to see Allison and Anna giving me strange looks. I stand up and make my way towards the poorly parked yellow car on the road.

"Girl, we've been calling you for at least 5 minutes," Anna says. "It looked like you were sleeping with your eyes open, it was so creepy!" adds Allison. "What are you doing here?" I ask as they laugh at my lost expression.

"Get in! It's the surfing finals, and Heather is waiting for us. She found the perfect spot!" I grumble at the thought of seeing Austin after yesterday's interaction, but I'm presented with a fait accompli as Allison opens the back door for me. "Get in, it's a police order for socialibilization."

"I'm almost certain that 'socialibilization' is not a real word," I look up at Allison, emphasizing this fact, earning me her famous "I roll my eyes higher than you do."

"That's not my concern." I sigh and settle in the backseat as Anna drives towards the beach.

We arrive just in time for the start of the competition as the surfers are already in position next to the beach. Anna's hand pulls me towards the area reserved by Heather, where Jace is holding me in his arms next to Ethan. I spot Austin behind the athlete's queue, each one waiting their turn to ride the waves.

The beach is crowded, and I sit between Allison and Anna. Max joins us a few moments later, and Allison moves aside for him to sit between us. "Hey, girls! Mia, great to see you," he winks at me, and I smile back. "Hey, Max," I greet him. He turns to each of the girls with the same opening line and finally looks at Allison to his left.

"My Lady."

"My Lord."

They're not together, but I must admit they look cute sitting next to each other. Anna confirms my thoughts with a silent "O.M.G," and we stifle our laughter. Finally, it's Austin's turn to be called to the waves, and I watch him approach the water, focused and with his board under his arm. He has a bun with some stray locks escaping. My gaze lingers on his chest, and I can finally admire the tattoo I caught a glimpse of last Wednesday. It's a sun made of thin lines diving into the sea, just  above his right pectoral. He has gained muscle over the years, and I can't help but let my gaze travel down to his stomach and his blond hair.
