-Zella(Jade POV)
I stalk through the forest briskly, the sooner I get out of here the better; I am well aware that Shane could send his huge pack out to look for me anytime soon-my only hope is that he is too preoccupied with finding Niamh.I quicken my pace as I realise someone was following me. I don't look behind, and instead break into a sprint. I hear the footfalls behind me quicken too, and soon I hear the heavy pant of its breathing. Outstretching my arm, I catch hold of a branch and swing myself up and over, landing directly behind the person. I take out my bloodied knife, and hold it defensively in front of me. Mentally I summon Blaise. He sits just above us on a tree branch.
"Who are you?" I hiss, my eyes narrowed.
Slowly he turns around. My eyes are met with what is obviously a vampire-his pale skin gives him away. He is lean and looks to be made for running, even through he's lightly muscled. He stands quite a bit taller than my 5ft'6inch, so I'm guessing he is about 6ft something. His strawberry blonde hair falls in his eyes-which are a shade of metallic grey, and overall he looks pretty hot. Too bad I don't have those sort of feelings anymore.
"Samuel Pettifer." He replies, quite confidently I must add. "Call me Sam."
"Sorry, but I won't know you long enough to remember your name." I reply, my eyes hard.
"Wanna bet?" He asks, a hit of danger edging his voice. "We can do this the easy way, or the hard way, Jade. Just because you are The Huntress, doesn't mean I'm going to treat you any differently to any of the others. Now come with me." His eyes turned hard, and suddenly I see an emotion resembling hatred glinting in his eyes.
"No." I reply, ever the stubborn bitch. His fist swings towards my face, and I duck quickly, just missing the hit. Suddenly I feel I burst of wind coming towards me. It slams me into a tree, and keeps me pinned there, also causing me to drop my knife. My eyes open in wonder as I realise I am dealing with another elemental-at last someone who can give me a real fight. As Sam stalks towards me, he drops the air and I fall, landing on my feet. We circle each other as a smirk makes its way onto my face. My turn.
Summoning my power, I blast a stream of white hot flames towards him. His eyes widen in shock at my control over my element. While he's distracted, I spin and using the direction of the wind, shoot more fire in his direction. His eyes narrow, and with a snap of his fingers the wind direction changes, sending the fire whizzing in a different direction. I curse, and let go of my control. I run towards him, and suddenly sweep him to the ground. Impressively, he grabs hold of my leg and takes me down with him, but midair he switches out our positions so he takes the full force of the fall. Thinking fast, I do the only thing I can think of to stop him firing that gust of wind that I know he's about to send my way; that would put me on my ass for sure.
I kiss him.
Our lips meet in a passionate embrace, and strangely enough I feel him kissing me back. He flips me over so I am under him, and continues the kiss, careful not to crush me under his weight. My hand snakes up to his hair, and I tug on it, my fingers entangled. His arm wraps around my waist, and letting out a possessive growl he lifts me up to him, pressing my body against his. I wrap my other arm around his back, desperate for him not to let go, desperate to keep his warmth. All of a sudden, I feel the familiar tingles race through my body. Shocked, I break the kiss.
"What just happened?" I whisper, eyes wide.
"Mate." Samuel whispers back.
"This is too much-too much!" I cry out.Tears fill my blue eyes as I remember Ryder. My mate is dead, this, this isn't possible. You only get one mate. I feel the tears run down my face, and the last thing I see is Samuel's worried face looking down on me before I pass out from shock, exhaustion, and confusion. I welcome the darkness gratefully.
