killian had been fighting in the stepstones for three years, which meant his son kassian was three years old and already in line for the seat at storm's end.

although her husband was not along, the baratheon's were invited to the royal hunt in honor of the new prince aegon's second name day. they were in the castle, feasting before the long ride to the king's wood.

saphrona had already read in letters rhaenyra's fear of having her inheritance of the throne taken by her new brother, and all the complaints about how horrid alicent was. it would be nice to see her beloved niece in person.

kiarra and kielynn had both been married off, kiarra to a lannister and kielynn to lady rhea royce's little brother. the two girls were having babies of their own, and saphrona felt so old. she was nearing her twenty first name day.

now, saphrona saw herself seated in the royal tent watching her in laws fawn over the new prince. she found kielynn looking terribly bored and sat by her, patting her leg. "i know you are hating every second you are here."

kielynn looked over, surprised, "don't you look nice sister. i cannot believe you are not participating in the hunt, ajax and shadowfax are probably devastated." she giggled, finding a good mood.

saphrona looked down at herself, she wore a gold tight dress with beaded details, it was gorgeous. her black hair was braided, of course. what her good sister didn't know is it didn't matter what the girl wore, she could still take down a boar in less than five minutes.

"oh rhaenyra, i could hunt even in this old thing. the instincts never leave, although this hunt is more of a joke, do you know what they do? have you ever seen?" saph asked her sister.

kielynn looked at her with curiosity in her eyes. "what do they do saph? i do not know." the pregnant girl was clearly intrigued.

"well women aren't allowed, but aellius said that the king's men, the hunting guides, will rope a stag and tie him down so your king can stab him through the heart." saphrona shook her head, it took away the whole purpose of the hunt.

their conversation was cut short by tyland lannister running in, "your grace. i bring urgent news from the stepstones, the crab feeder has dug in for siege on bloodstone while his men sabotage our fleet under the cover of dark."

saphrona turned her head quickly to hear the news from tyland. he had been close to her husband, and regrettably she hadn't heard from him in weeks which was only normal when the fighting was awful. he had not been home once, although she visited, alone by riding with rhaenys once. she missed him horribly.

the king turned and laughed, "not today tyland." he waved him off and went to turn back around. saphrona scoffed, this showed how much the king actually cared about the battle.
