FAMILY REUNION AT A FUNERAL

saphrona hated the circumstances at which they rode to driftmark. it was always like this, a wedding or a funeral. the two were more alike than people thought.

aenor was absolutely beside himself, jane was doing the best she could to keep her son's spirits up, but no one could. not even kassian. not even his daughters, who he hadn't the heart to console. the two had gained a close friendship, one that even rivaled saphrona and rhaenyra's.

aenor and lady jane rode in one carriage. daemon and saphrona in another, and all the children were with godfrey. poor godfrey, although he loved being a glorified nanny.

saphrona rested her head on her husband's shoulder as he stroked her long black hair. "darling why must we be surrounded by death at all times?" she asked, looking up.

daemon shook his head, placing a kiss on his wife's forehead. "everyone has to at sometime, some just comes a little sooner than others i guess love." he opened his arms to let her fall into his lap.

she scoffed. "i just hate this. it almost feels as if death surrounds me. first my father, then my brother, then my sister, my first husband, now my good niece. i don't know if i can take it much longer. if i lose anyone else i might go mad."

this was something that had been on saphrona's mind a long time. it felt like death loomed over her like a shadow, wiping out people closest to her. if she ever lost daemon or her children, especially her children, she would never recover.

daemon continued petting his wife's hair. "darling, i would never let such a thing happen to me or the children ever. you need not worry." he smiled down at the woman. he was smitten, and would be for the rest of his life if he had saphrona by his side.

saphrona sighed again, "i wonder how rhaenyra is doing, having lord lyonel and sir harwin both burned in the fires at harrenhal?" she ached for her niece, knowing the pain of losing loved ones too early.

daemon scoffed, "that is all a political game. you would be smart to realize that alicent and her cunt of a father had them killed so there would be no strength from the strongs." saphrona chuckled at his play on words.

"i hate politics. i'd like to stay holed up in eyrie for the rest of my life if it's possible." saphrona whined, as her husband patted her head.

saphrona grinned up at her husband before settling in for a nap, using his lap as a pillow. the carriage was quite uncomfy, but she made do. she knew shadowfax was at home in the vale, probably quite vexed at her for not riding him to driftmark. it was too cold, and the children would need a carriage no matter.

daemon had taken caraxes and vhaegar to driftmark days before with the body of lady laena, so it could be properly prepared. he did this so he could ride with his family. the children were too young to ride their dragons, and he did not want to leave saphrona behind.
