Chapter 16

"No. I can't.. this can not happen" Tay'ra mutters, as she's sat in Jake's marui.

She was confused.

Afraid.

Not knowing what was going on, or how any of this were to happen.

Why, to her?

What did they want from her?

She knew about the tulkun killers. But they were over the horizon.

And far away.

So why have they come to them. Why have they come here?

"Tay'ra, I'm sorry" Jake says.

Tay'ra looks at him, "what for?"

"This is all my fault" Jake says.

She looks at him, slightly puzzled, "what do you mean? What.. what did you do?"

"They must have found me here. They must have tracked me down and found me. I have no idea how else they would be here. How the humans would be here. They never travel along this island yet now that I am here, it has changed" Jake says.

She felt her heart drop.

The man who she fell in love with.

He was the reason? It could not possibly be.

"No. It can't be" she whispers and then looks up at him.

"I'm really sorry. I didn't know they'd come after me. I knew they'd try to find me, I just didn't know they'd find me. That they'd hunt me" Jake says.

"You knew? You knew they were after you, when you came here?" Tay'ra stood up.

Jake stood up after her, "yes.  Yes I knew. Which is why I came to you. For your help. I needed.. I needed this new place. To hide. To be with you."

"You. You caused this?" Tay'ras' words trembled as she moved away from Jake. 

Tay'ra knew, how much the humans hates Jake. How much the sky people hated him.

If she were to go against her clan, to help the humans,it would be just the same.

So she knew.

But to hear what he knew, and that he didn't tell her?

Her expression changed.

Nothing but fear in her eyes as she stood in front of a person she did not know.

"Tay'ra?" Jake put his hands forward to her.

But she moves further away from him.

"How could you?" Tay'ra says.

"Tay'ra I'm really sorry. I didn't know this would happen. I didn't know they'd find me!" Jake says, "you have to believe me. Please."

"Even if you didn't know they'd find you, you should have told us! You should have told us that people were after you! We could have prevented this.. this.. Lili'at.." Tay'ras' vision was unclear.

She had no idea where her eyes were wandering off to and why.

As they moved around frantically.

Her heart beating faster as she continued to look around.

"Tay'ra, please. I'm so sorry" Jake says.

"No. No. We kissed me. You told me you were ready to mate with me. All this and yet, you didn't wish to tell me the truth?" Tay'ra asks.

"If I told you the truth, I would have been kicked out. They would have sent me away. Is that what you wanted? For me to stay away from you?" Jake asks.
