The air hung heavy with a musty scent, permeated by the sense of abandonment. The warehouse stood amidst an abandoned industrial landscape. The walls once vibrant with color, now bore the marks of neglect. The sound of distant traffic echoed through the desolate streets.
Inside the warehouse, a solitary lamp flickered. As the lamp cast its dim glow, the sounds of men chuckling and laughing materialized in the corners of the warehouse.
"Give up, Waraha." Keith roared as he threw Engfa's body across the room.
Engfa hissed in pain as she coughed the blood out of her mouth. Swollen and distorted, her face was almost unrecognizable. Shades of purple, blue, and yellow intermingled across the once-smooth canvas of a face.
Keith wiped his bloodied hands with a cloth and threw it aside before walking toward Engfa. He grabbed her face hard.
"I wouldn't have resorted to this if you hadn't stolen my girl," Keith said, his voice seething with anger.
Engfa gathered her energy to release her face from Keith's death grab.
"That's where you're wrong. She was never yours." Engfa started.
Keith frowned and growled as he grabbed Engfa by the neck and lifted her up before slamming her against a box so hard, it broke. Keith grabbed a piece of thick wood and started slamming it down on Engfa multiple times. Engfa cried in pain until Keith finally got tired. Keith threw the wood onto Engfa and pushed back his hair.
"Send her to Charlotte. This will teach them not to mess with me." Keith ordered his men.
Engfa had passed out long ago, losing out to her open wounds. The men carried Engfa and put her into the car, carrying out their task given by their ruthless leader. Keith walked away without looking behind, as one of his men passed him a beer. He opened the can and took a large gulp, thirsty from the horrendous act he had done on Engfa. He smirked and sat down on the run-down couch, and watched the men take Engfa away.
Charlotte was pacing in the living room. Engfa had told her she would be reaching soon. That was hours ago. She was worried and it was late at night. Her calls were not answered, it was unlike her. She tried calling again but this time, she heard Engfa's ringtone from outside the door. She rushed to the door and quickly opened it. She dropped her phone and rushed to Engfa's side. Engfa was lifeless and bloodied. She could not even recognize the girl.
"P'Fa!!!"
Charlotte checked for Engfa's breathing. It was faint. She carefully touched Engfa's face.
"Baby, wake up! Don't leave me, no."
Charlotte crawled to her phone and dialled for the ambulance. Engfa's body slid down and Charlotte caught her. She leaned Engfa's body against her and pushed her hair behind.
"P'Fa... Hold on, please. I love you, baby. I can't lose you too." Charlotte begged as she kissed Engfa's temple.
Charlotte kept caressing Engfa's arms and face carefully. Finally, Engfa opened her eyes slightly. She smiled slowly, relieved that Charlotte's beautiful face greeted her.
"Tee rak..." Engfa called out.
Charlotte turned to her.
"Baby! Oh, God. Thank you! Don't scare me like that."
Engfa groaned in pain.
"Tee rak... I want to... lie down... It hurts to... sit." Engfa asked.
Charlotte quickly sat with her back against the wall and laid Engfa's head on her lap. She caressed Engfa's eyebrows, just how she likes it. Engfa was at peace even though she was in so much pain. Engfa took in Charlotte's face and tears rolled down her eyes. Charlotte quickly wiped it away.
