Shekhar stopped by a watch store. He looked at the display infront of him and sighed at the sight of the prices.
It was his boss's birthday and he took off an hour early just so he could by a gift. Now he could not just gift a cheap watch to him. That'd be embarrassing. Sadly.
He tapped his foot impatiently on the floor as he tried to make a decision on which watch to choose which is just the right priced.
He sighs again as he does realise that he's not the only one getting a watch. This is a common gift. But Shekhar isn't good with gifts, feelings or anything of that matter. He just liked to get things done. All was just a formality for him.
He finally let out a big sigh and get's a ₹30,000 watch. He felt stupid because he knows his boss knows this all is just for a good promotion or increment. And he knows that too.
After all what kind of emotional attachment is there between the boss and him to get him a 30K watch? None. It's all just buttering.
His heart sinking as he put his credit card pin. "This is just...bs" he thought to himself as he took the gift bag.
* * *The whole meeting room applauded as Mr.Aggarwal blowed out the candles and laughed with a blue birthday cap on his half bald head.
Shekhar stood by the corner leaned on the wall, clapping boringly. Everyone started giving him his gifts. Shekhar looked at the white gift bag dangling on his fingers. Then he looked around the room and spots 4-5 people with same gift bags. Few of different companies.
He stood straight and started walking towards the boss and stretches a big fat fake smile on his face.
"Happy birthday, sir!" He exclaims.
"Thank you ....?"
"Shekhar sir."
"Ah yes yes hahaha thank you shekhar"
With that the boss patted Shekhar's right arm and walked away. With an exhausted face he looked at the cake which looked not so appetising with the whole white heavy frosting and blue border. And so many sprinkles. Shekhar didn't like sprinkles.
"Expensive gifts but couldn't get a good cake from a branded bakery" he scoffed.
"Hey Shekhar!" Someone called him. He looked at the direction of the voice."Haan Shaurya, what's up?"
"Nothing with me, you tell me."
"Same."
"What happened to Priya?"
"Broke up"
"Again?"
"Yes. But this is last time."
"Sure? Hahaha"Shekhar just faintly smiled at the 'joke' which he did not find funny.
Shaurya further spoke, "oh and by the way. Boss's daughter will be joining our company. Knew that?"Shekhar shook his head uninterested as he didn't care. But Shaurya was like the gossip chachi of the department. He knew everything.
And he loved to tell everyone everything.
He did not care if someone was listening to him or not, he'd speak regardless."She will be joining in our department. That's weird no?"
"Why?" Shekhar asked
"Boss's daughter working as a junior in our department?"
Shekhar shrugged
"It is very sussy" said Shaurya
"Sussy?" Shekhar as he raised an eyebrow
"New generation term." Shaurya said with a shy smile
