"My eyes are so heavy.." Shaurya said as he yawned and rubbed his eyes. We both were at our desks waiting for lunch time."What did you get for lunch today?" He asked
"Nothing, will just buy something." I replied as I laid back on my chair and cracked my knuckles. Today was a slow day. It was also raining outside. So due to dark clouds the office looked a bit lethargic as well. I don't know if it's the right word but it's the most appropriate one I could think of right now.
"You're buying for the 4th time in a row. Unhealthy."
I looked at him with a bored expression and replied, "Yeah? Well I'm sorry I have no Gangu-tai to make me lunch."Shaurya rolled his eyes, "I cook lunch myself in the morning for your kind information, and secondly, not my fault you don't get good house helpers."
"The good ones are too expensive."
"But buying lunch everyday isn't"* * *
Finally lunch time.
Shaurya and I went to the lunch area and I stood at the small counter to get myself a cup of strong ginger chai and a plate of ...
What should I get? Samosas? No. Not feeling them right now. They should provide free lunch. How do they have the audacity to make their employee spend money in the company where they work.
I decided to get cup noodle. Chai and cup noodle is my lunch for today. It's sad but it is what it is. Sigh.
Shaurya was standing by the vending machine getting himself a coca cola can. I walked to him, "Drink water ones in a while too." I commented out of fun but then he sarcastically eyed my cup noodles.
He's mean sometimes.
We walked towards the sitting area and sat down at one of the empty table. Me and my mean buddy here weren't much popular so it was just us both sitting together enjoying our lunch in peace.
I have been really busy these days. My head has been giving me so much work lately that I'm starting to lose it slowly.
Haven't even gotten any chance to talk to Gauri either. Even though we're patched up, she didn't change her seat back to next to mine. Cause well, that'd look weird.
I sighed and was about to check on my cup noodled whether they're cooked or not, my eye caught a glimpse of her entering with her lunch box.
She's wearing a blue kurta with white leggings. And her hair are open. And probably so is my mouth right now.
"Are you going to keep staring at her?" I looked at Shaurya immediately
"What?"
"You were staring at Gauri, weren't you?"
"No."Shaurya leaned back and crossed his arms as he looked at me with a smug look. I'm going to punch him.
"Don't tell me, you're starting to like her"
"You've lost your mind." I replied as I fully peeled off the cover of my noodles.
"You're lying."Am I?
"No I'm not." I've started eating,
"You are." and he's eating my head instead of his paratha.
"Think whatever you want."
"Okay." He replied with a chuckle. A rather sacrastic one.I don't know actually. How can someone just start liking someone? My intentions were clearly wrong to begin with but then I felt guilty so I apologised and we're friends again!
I don't get where feelings could seep in? Where is the crack? Is there any? I mean I did miss her a little. But doesn't mean I started to like her!
I don't. I really do not. Shaurya is just an idiot anyways who likes to pull my legs anytime he sees the opportunity to. He's a greag friend afterall.
* * *
It was raining cats and dogs.
Thunderstorming as well. Not a good weather at all.
I looked at the rain as I stood at the entry of the office building.I sighed as I dreaded the idea of running towards my car, get wet and have to sit inside my car and soak my whole seat. It's a nightmare.
"But papa how is this possible?"
I know that voice.
I turned my head to see her
She was on call with the boss obviously. I wonder what's wrong. Should I ask?
"It's raining so hard I don't see how you expect me to do that for you." She seemed pissed off.
"Wha- you're going to use that against me?"
It seems serious. After a long pause she replied back,
"No need. I'll manage on my own."
Manage what? She sighed and cut the call. Her face fully frowned as she tried to dial another number I guess.
She put the phone against her ear but sighed and put it back down. Assuming the other side wasn't reachable.
Should I ask her? Or should I not? Should I? Or not? Should I? Or no-
This is utter nonsense.
What the fuck am I doing?"Everything fine?" I asked away. But it felt involuntarily, as if my mouth just asked it out loud on it's own.
She looked at me and gave me a small smile.
"Yeah... the cabs are not available due to weather. Isn't that total shit? What are they here for?"
She seemed reallly angry. I should be careful.
"Oh? Well it is raining really hard."
Made it worse.
"So what? You're going to drive home won't you?"I'm dumbfounded and I don't know why. Maybe the companies don't want to take any risk? But it actually doesn't make any sense. Maybe the cabs aren't available in this area at the moment?
After few seconds of silence I spoke again,
"I can drop you home then, you good with that?"
Again. Involuntarily. What is happening?
She looked at me with a dense look. Why is she looking at me like that. Did I ask something wrong?
"You sure? I don't want to bother you."
"No worry."
"Uhmm... alright then."I smiled at her and something inside me tickled.
What's happening?
