The next day at the office was a busy day. Aggarwal's company was an online importing/exporting business and today there were many orders. But the IT department was calm like always.
I looked beside me and saw Gauri's seat which was empty. She was 2 hours late. Afterall she's boss's daughter. I scoffed and focused on my work.
Shaurya's advice kept lingering in my mind. It all sounded so ... selfish, but then aren't we supposed to be selfish? I mean survival of the fittest? You know what i'm trying to say, right?
I sighed and felt tired as I could not get a good night sleep last night thanks to all the partying Shaurya wanted to do and the way he dragged me in. It was fun but at what cost? My sleep.
Anyways, I heard the chair beside me move and I looked and saw Gauri panting. All out of breath and exhausted.
She whispered a small "sorry" in between her breaths as she took her seat and quickly turned on her system. I'm curious now.
"Why are you late?" I asked.
"I'm sorry, some urgent work came up."More urgent work than your office?
"Any health issue or family issue?"
"No..."She answered without looking at me. I guess she doesn't want to discuss, so I stopped asking and went on with my work.
But I wanted to get close to her, right? I should look like I care.
I turned towards her and plastered a caring curious face."Are you doing okay?" I asked in a sympathetic tone, or well I tried to.
She looked at me and sighed,
"Yes yes it's all good, don't worry."
She is definitely hiding something
"Hey" I whispered
"It's okay you can share it all with me."
She looked at me and gave an awkward smile and nodded her head then turned towards her screen quickly.
"You on your periods?"I should not have asked that.
(GAURI'S POV)
What the f-
"Excuse me?!" I whispered shouted at him.
Who does he think he is? And who asks such a question?!
He looked taken aback from my sudden reaction
"I mean I have a sister you know. And I know it's difficult for you lad-"
"Stop it!"
I interrupted him before he could talk more bullshit.
"Please mind your own business. I was late and I gave my reason to the HR. He said it's alright. Now you do not need to meddle and interrogate me. I mean who the hell asks such a question to a lady?!"I went all out on him. He looked very taken aback and surprised.
"I-I'm sorry." He apologised.
I sighed and closed my eyes to calm myself. God. Why is today so bad."Hmm. It's okay" I nodded at him and started working. I had to get everything done quickly, I have to be somewhere by evening.
(SHEKHAR'S POV)
What a ...
I scoffed in my mind. What wrong did I do? I just asked out of selfish concern. Huh.
But as minutes passed I started to feel guilty. This was a stupid thing, wasn't it.
But the air was too heated to have another conversation. I should let her fully calm down before I sincerely apologise.
(evening, 4:35pm)
I yawned and stretched a bit as I walked around the office. Just 1 hour more then I can leave.
As I walked around half asleep, I saw Gauri get up and pack her stuff up. Where was she going? Her shift ends in 1 hour too.
I was about to walk towards her, but I stopped hesitating. I already pissed her off.
Let's not. Talk. But I wonder, where is she off to?
