i was resting on the side of the elevator moping when the sound of our coms beeping filled my ear.

"leon. there's only time to say this once, so listen up. they took your friend to the top of the clock tower. if you two hurry y'all might get there before she turns into one of them" i heard ada say into my ear. i didn't even respond. i feel defeated. every single aspect of this mission has gone wrong. leon's infected. ashley's infected. luis died. ada's here. the list could go on for ages. i am long overdue for a vacation.

"ah, so you aren't heartless after all. i guess we should be...thankful?" leon responded to ada.

"thankful is a strong word leon" i mumbled back making sure that ada could hear me.

"i'd watch your mouth i don't have to help you two."

"wouldn't really call it help but whatever makes you sleep better at night merc" i said back in a sassy tone venom lacing my words.

"astrid enough leave it be she's helping us" leon said through gritted teeth getting annoyed that i was bickering with ada. she disconnected as the elevator got to the top of the lift. we were in the big room that was filled with bugs earlier. i walked silently out of the lift and toward where i could see the purple flame of the merchant. i threw my things onto the table with some money for him to fix before buying a few things from him. merchant didn't even question my mood instead he silently worked on my gear before handing it back to me. i walked over to the locked gate unlocking it and walking back into the room where the bugs were.

"what's going on with you" leon asked following me. i stayed silent not really in the mood to talk about my problems. i felt leon grab my wrist and stop me.

"astrid" he said looking at me in the eyes. i clenched my jaw.

"i don't trust her leon. she screwed us over six years ago. what makes you think that she's had a change of heart. i mean what's the coincidence that there is a parasite that can control people and she just shows up here hm? it just doesn't make sense" i said back almost yelling at him.

"look we need whatever help we can get it doesn't matter wh-"

"god leon why are you still making excuses for her" i said frustrated ripping my hand from his. i ran it through my hair before turning away from him.

"i'm not making excu-"

"yes you are. you did it in raccoon when we thought she died and you're doing now. but y'know what if you wanna keep following her around like a lost puppy be my guest but don't drag me down with you" i said venom lacing my words as i walked into the funicular to get to the clock tower. leon just stood there. he clenched his jaw and stared down at the floor.
