"can you stand" leon softly asked as i began to stand. my legs gave for a second and his strong arms wrapped around me holding me up. i looked up into his eyes and smiled before looking over to see a map.

"that a map?"

"yeah i found it" ashley said grabbing it and handing it to leon and i. we saw it was an escape plan that luis must've drawn up "i think it says we can get out if we go...this way" she finished pointing to a spot on the map that was circled. i handed the map to leon who examined it before folding it and placing it back into his pocket.

"are you okay" he gently whispered to me while ashley began to walk forward. i gave him a small nod before ashley stopped in her tracks.

"hey, we're a team, right?" she said softly turning towards us. leon let out a small chuckle.

"keep this up? i'll be out of a job" he said back with a small smile tilted on his lips. she smiled at him as i began to move around the lab.

"so, all of this? removing the parasites...this was luis?" ashley said looking at the equipment luis made to remove the plaga.

"yeah...we're alive. thanks to him" i said lowering my head slightly to commemorate the passed man that helped us. i came across a small journal that must've been luis'.

methods for eradicating las plagas

there are two ways to eradicate las plagas:

antigen injection and surgery

if the parasite has not hatched yet, it can be treated by administering antigen directly into the body

once it has hatched however, there's not much that can be done besides slow its growth.

with surgery, the plaga can be targeted and killed using a certain wavelength of radiation.

but this is not without risks. if the parasite has attached itself to the host's nervous system, the will experience excruciating pain. and there is no effective anesthesia for this kind of procedure.

surgical removal carries considerable risks, even before the parasite has fully developed.

once fully grown however, it is too late: removing the parasite would kill the host.

but considering what will happen to them death may be a mercy.

i put luis' journal in my bag to add to my report later and continued to look around the lab for anything useful. i came across another set of notes that didn't appear to belong to luis.

saddler's animus

do not be fooled into thinking that las plagas are merely tools for creating powerful bioweapons. their true value lies in their ability to control.
