the draw bridge began to raise once we walked past it and into an open room with a stone ramp on the left. we began to climb up the ramp which spit us out at a good place to look around for anything with the binoculars.
"their defenses are no joke up there" leon said passing me his binoculars allowing me to see for myself. i saw several armed guards pacing the area keeping look out. i moved the binoculars left a bit and saw a building carved into the summit of the mountain. it had purple drapes around the archway.
"that's gotta be their sanctuary" i said passing the binoculars back to leon who hummed in agreement. i didn't know what to say to him right now. he's being distant after killing krauser but i can't help him. it makes me feel awful because i not only care about him but i need him focused on saving ashley.
"ashley!" i heard leon say. he must've seen them taking her into the sanctuary. he tucked his binoculars into his belt and we began making our way toward the summit. we walked along a path that cut in the middle of the mountain and came out at a building with a few guards hanging around the area. and by a few i mean more like 15. there were a lot.
"fuck there's a lot of them" i whispered to leon who nodded in agreement. i took out my rifle and began sniping the ones in the watch tower that i could get but there was a turret that began firing where we were. leon immediately pulled me down on top of him to avoid the bullets whizzing by us. i heard the sound of a helicopter and rockets flew at the building the guards were at.
"what the" i said as leon and i both sat up.
"what was that" leon said as we began shooting at the guards that were still alive from the air raid. once the area was clear we cautiously walked into the open covering our eyes and looking up at the helo.
"sorry! bad traffic! one combat chopper, compliments of hunnigan!" a voice rang out from the helicopter's pa system. i sighed in relief hearing that it was on our side. leon quickly glanced over at me.
"call me mike. now let's show these assholes what we got!" he said flying ahead of us.
"hunnigan...we owe her one" i said gratefully. more guards came over to investigate what all the commotion was about and mike began to speak up again.
"oh yeah! more customers! lure them into an open area! i'll give them what they came for!" he said as he shot at the men that were coming toward leon and i. once the guards were all dead mike shot a missile at the wall next to us. it blew up and gave us an open way to travel through.
"jackpot! all right, go go go!" he said once the flames died down. leon and i jogged through the smoke and into a new area. the mountain terrain on either side of us provided cover from the guards up ahead.
"leave the area up ahead to me! take a break...before you join in on the fun!" mike said flying ahead of us. leon and i slowed our pace reloading our guns and preparing to clean up whoever mike didn't kill. i could hear loud bangs ahead and saw the bright flames from a missile.
