i woke up in the boat in the middle of the lake. right the boat broke down in the middle of the lake. the thing. nessie. i thought to myself my migraine now ten times as intense. i looked over to see leon passed out next to me. there was blood crusting on his lip and on his glove. i frowned trying to figure out what happened to him. i took two oars before rowing over to a cave in the lake. once i rowed us to a dock i felt leon stir against my leg.

"morning princess enjoy your nap?" i asked him as he coughed sitting up. i tried to stand but my migraine instantly got worse causing my knees to buckle slightly. in an instant leon was up and had his hands on my waist stabilizing me.

"shit are you okay? you took another gnarly hit to the head. i know you're hard headed but don't push it" leon said gently still holding onto me. i looked up at him. his blue eyes staring into mine. i felt a small blush creep onto my cheeks.

"yeah i think i'm okay. what about you?" i said gently looking down from his eyes to his lips noticing the blood again. he nodded before suppressing a cough. i looked at him disappointed he'd lie. i sat him down on the bench in the boat before taking some clean water and a piece of gauze and gently wiping his face. i placed a hand on his jaw holding his face in place as i gently wiped the blood of his lip and chin. i worked my way to some dirt on the side of his face gently turning it so i could get a better angle. he just stared at me the whole time watching the way my eyes would dart across his face. i pulled the soiled gauze away from his face watching as he smiled up at me. i didn't notice how he had leaned into my touch my hand still on his jaw. we just sat there staring into each other's eyes again. the tension could be cut with a knife.

"thank you" he whispered barely audible still keeping the eye contact. i nodded silently gently releasing my grip on his face. he grabbed my arm and gently pulled me down to sit next to him.

"let me check your head and make sure the wound from earlier didn't open again" he said to me turning my head so he could see where the wound was. i felt him take my hair out of  its bun and separated my hair to get a better view. he tucked a stray piece behind my ear before tracing his fingers over the now scabbed over gash. i winced slightly seeing that there was no blood on his fingers when he pulled them away from the back of my head.

"where are we?" he asked finally looking around to see where the boat was.

"i rowed us to the cave that the map said the key was in" i said trying to stand again. leon put a hand on my waist to stabilize me incase i lost my balance again. we got out the boat before leon called hunnigan.

"condor-one to roost. do read us?" leon said into his earpiece.

"condor-one?! y'all have been radio silent for almost three hours! are y'all all right?" hunnigan said exasperated.

"yeah yeah we're fine. won't let it happen again" leon said in response.

"and the church?"

"still looking for whatever 'key' we need" i finally spoke up.
