i heard rustling behind me before a soft voice echoed in the room.
"astrid?" i heard ashley say not really looking over at me. this caused leon to jolt up from my lap where he laid sleeping a moment ago. he looked over at me and then at ashley before letting out a small breath and smiling at the girl on the bed who was now slightly sitting up to look at us. leon turned his body toward her resting his arm on the mattress she was on and pushing himself to his knees.
"sorry we're late" he said nonchalantly looking between me and the girl.
"no. thank you. you guys brought the medicine just in time" she said rubbing her arm and looking at us. gratitude and sincerity filled her gaze.
"can you stand?" i asked her gently reaching out incase she needed help. she scooted herself to the edge of the bed and threw her legs over.
"where's luis?" she asked as she began to get up to her feet. leon looked over at me clenching his jaw slightly giving me a what do i say look.
"he was worried about you...until the end..." i said sadly dropping my head reminiscing the friend that had passed not too long ago. ashley stopped and fell back onto the mattress staring at me. she dropped her head and i could see that she was mourning his loss as well. i gently gave her a side hug assuring her that everything would be okay. but it wasn't we were still trapped on this damn island with a parasite inside of leon and ashley.
"c'mon. we don't have much time" leon said rising from his knees, "let's get rid of these things." he held his hand out for ashley to grab and stand. she grabbed onto it tightly and shook it slightly before speaking.
"for luis" she said rising to her feet. i nodded in agreement standing next to the two. before we could make it out of the room our coms beeped signaling that leon was signaling ada.
"ada come in. there's a lab where we can remove the parasites. had a crazy hunch that you'd know where it is" he said after hearing her connect to the call.
"their most important facilities are housed in their sanctuary at the top of the mountain. that's where i'd look" she said before i spoke up.
"huh, ada the encyclopedia" i said in a slightly sarcastic tone. she didn't even bother to respond to me before she spoke up clearly talking to leon.
"happy to help. now you owe me" she said before disconnecting. i gritted my teeth in frustration.
"y'know i really don't like her" i said almost under my breath. leon let out a small chuckle.
"you've said that probably 100 times since we've seen her"
"i just want to make it clear" i said back grabbing a notebook from one of the tables in the room. from what i read there were two different species of plaga. one that was natural and incapable of making the host do complex tasks and another man-made one that was superior and allowed the host to keep their intelligence. i stuffed the book into my bag along with the rest of the files and we began to move onward. we left the room and immediately saw the locked gate next to us. there was a spot that i could climb over to the other side.
