Feng Yanyan was tired.
"Taking care of kids is tiring." He muttered under his breath and soon realized that no one would reply to him now.
He froze, suddenly feeling at a loss. JuZi, Pu Tao and Jiao... he left the trio in Suliang. But knowing about the end of Wan Li Wang, he was apprehensive about the three.
The whole afternoon was spent with his nieces and his back was tired from carrying the rowdy kids in turns. But instead of going back to his residence, he went to seek his brother.
"You want to know what happened to your maids?" Feng Yanggu listened to his brother hemming and hawing only to glean the real intention behind the latter's words.
"I..." Fifth young master sighed. "Is it possible?"
Yanggu shook his head. "It's not."
Feng Yanyan grew devastated. Something might have happened to those three girls. His older brother knocked his head quite loudly.
"Stop thinking of bad things. They're probably safe."
He couldn't answer the hows and whys but he could still inform this little brother that they were alright. The old lady surnamed Gui had obediently followed the Patriarch's wish to protect Yanyan.
Eldest young master was sure Grandfather wouldn't let anything untoward happen to them. But that was the extent of their control. As for the other servants of Wan Li Wangfu, they were probably sold or liquidated.
Feng Yanyan stared at his brother in incredulity. How could he be so confident?
Since going back, he was having a peculiar feeling but he couldn't place a finger upon it.
"Oh," He rubbed his forehead. "If it's like this, then I don't have to worry."
Waving goodbye, he started making his way back to his small courtyard.
His mind was floating somewhere as he recalled some details during childhood. There were a lot of puzzling things now that he looked back.
How did Grandfather get specific details about Wan Li Wang's death? He spoke of them in certainty, almost sounding as though he was there in person.
Why was his eldest brother always so confident and somehow could do things that a mere imperial guard couldn't do. Now that he thought about it, how could the eldest brother bribe the female officials in the palace back then? And when Feng Yanyan was in trouble, it was like the eldest brother had a built in radar and would accurately come in time to save him.
Back then, it always looked like accidental coincidences.
Feng Yanyan didn't think too much about it.
But then, didn't Father also forge a connection to Ping Junwang seamlessly? He was just a retired yamen official.
Curious.
Fifth young master was frightened by his thoughts. It couldn't be that his family was secretly powerful.
His footsteps stopped. The wind blew the leaves of the ginkgo tree up ahead, making his figure look ethereal.
Yanyan laughed. He was delusional.
If his family was a secret powerhouse, that was simply too... improbable.
His family wasn't dirt poor but the furniture in this villa was all too old. He suspected those were inherited from his great great grandfather. Most of his clothes before entering the palace were handed down from his older cousins and the rest were made by his mother.
