Feng Yanyan stared at the darkness where his father was. He could feel the goosebumps all over his body.
In this pitch-black darkness, Yao Liheng told him of the horrors he did in order to survive in the Yao family and protect his loved ones. A part of him grew afraid. They were related by blood, but the ones Liheng was trying to destroy were also related to him.
What if eldest master Yao deemed him not useful and decided to cast him away?
He heard a laugh. "You're afraid?"
Yao Liheng must have detected his thoughts.
"There's no reason for you to be afraid. I don't think the Feng family will agree for you to be here if they can't protect you."
Feng Yanyan heard the rustling of clothes and assumed that his father stood up.
In fact, he knew what Liheng was talking about. Even before he could step outside the Feng villa, he was subjected to naggings from his father and mother on who to contact when he would be in trouble.
Only then did he know the intricate network of his family. Who would have thought they were able to plant spies in the Prime Minister estate? He realized that he was one lucky guy to be cherished by this family.
To think that he was previously outraged by their lack of ambition. It was because they didn't need ambition to stand where they were at.
"Stand proud, Feng Yanyan. You are Feng Lingling's son and the beloved fifth young master of the Feng family. They will not let anyone hurt you."
When Yao Liheng uttered those words in the middle of the night inside his own home, it sounded a bit melancholy in Feng Yanyan's ears.
It reminded him that while his biological father took him under his wings, the man still knew his place. He could never be his father. What they were now was part of the deal to take down the Yao family from within.
Feng Yanyan felt a little pang but it was what it was. And he had no way to change the years of pain that Yao Liheng went through. Same way Liheng could not undo his past.
What they could do right now was pave a path for a better tomorrow... yes, by eliminating the Yao family where they both hailed from.

The stretches of land in between Persia and Dalong was the land claimed by the nomadic Hu Ren tribes.
As a matter of fact, it was only the people of Dalong who named them as such. In truth, there was no sense of unity among those who were identified as Hu Ren.
They were not cohesive, and each tribe acted on their own.
It was the machination of the Empress that the tribe leaders gathered their troops and attacked Suliang under one banner.
When their leaders fell, these tribes were also put in chaos. Long Xu Le could only imagine how many innocent lives were affected by the Yao family's actions.
Her party now entered the Jiang gap. It was a stretch of rainforest that was notorious for its wild animals and dangerous plants.
During their escape from Suliang, they didn't pass this area because they had Adrina's help in legally entering Persia. But now that there was a possibility of being pursued by Persian troops, Madam Lian decided to enter this no man's land.
Long Xu Le and the Danwan troops that also escaped from Suliang had regrouped at this point.
The soldiers were all delighted to finally see their King. They had an inkling that she was alive but seeing her in person was the confirmation they needed.
They had never seen Wan Li Wang be this vulnerable before. They were astonished to know that she couldn't see and had been blind even before they left Suliang.
Did it mean that Her Highness fought against barbarians without being able to see? These soldiers were horrified just thinking about the tenacity of their general. They could never compare.
And yet, she was still the one apologizing for not being enough. How could they accept her apologies?
Her Highness did everything she could to protect Suliang. It was now up to His Highness, Prince Ping, to inherit this will.
Their job right now was to survive this wilderness with the hopes of returning to their homeland. It was quite far-fetched but all these soldiers could do in order to survive was focus on a doubtful future.
No matter how depressed they were, whenever they saw Long Xu Le moving forward, they wanted to do better. They saw her as their beacon, their lighthouse in this tumultuous sea they were experiencing.
Long Xu Le was also well aware of this.
"I can't give up, can I?" She muttered to Madam Lian who was trying to tend to her eyesight as much as she could.
"That's right, all these people are looking up at you."
"I can't see them though."
Madam Lian paused her hand. This child... was she really Long Xu Le? She had never heard this child crack a joke before.
It was probably Feng Yanyan's influence on her. She wanted to reprimand her disciple but now was not the time. Everyone was equally suffering.
Well, she was used to the unpredictability of Jianghu life but it was the first time for these people to be stripped of their identity as people of Dalong.
Thousands of men were camping inside a rainforest, hiding from enemies. They were hiding from their own countrymen and from enemy countries. It was quite harsh for proud soldiers to be betrayed by the nation they served.
It was even harsher for Wan Li who sacrificed her whole life to protect those she cherished.
"Do you have a plan in mind already?" Madam Lian asked.
They could not stay here forever. It would be harder and harder to hunt for thousands of people.
Not once did Madam Lian see Xu Le smile ever since waking up in Persia. But now, she was sporting a gentle smile.
"It's still hatching but I believe I'll be able to share it with you soon. Thank you for staying with me, Master. I hope we'll have a better tomorrow."
Madam Lian felt her eyes burn. It was a relief Xu Le couldn't see them. "Stupid disciple. You have caused me trouble time and again."
The jianghu lady quietly swore to take care of her student back to health.
