Su Chen sighed. "During this time, do we have the luxury to think about frivolous things?"

"Frivolous?" The Prince paused what he was doing. "That's your wife!"

"Yu'er, you also have a wife."

"..."

The two stared at each other until they both looked away at the same time. None of them were in a position to tease the other about their wives.

Long Sangyu faked a cough. "Well, no matter what, I know that the ladies da jie chose for us aren't bad people. So why don't you give her a chance?"

The older man didn't reply anymore, ending this conversation about their problematic romance.

Su Chen recalled the seemingly soft girl at home. Whenever he remembered that he had a wife, he would think of the chubby cat that he raised when he was a young boy.

Maomao was a white furball. And he loved hugging that cat, taking her everywhere.

Sometimes, his hand itched to pinch his wife's cheeks and pet her head but he would always stop himself and she would look up at him in bewilderment.

He sighed. Maomao was really cute.

Back in his residence, Cao Min sneezed three times in a row.

"Lady, you'll get sick waiting for Master here all night." An attendant walked over and draped a coat on the young lady knitting by the winding corridor lamp.

This was the humble Nan residence. All of the servants here were hired just to create the image of Nan Kan, the wayward adviser of the Prince.

And yet, these hired hands couldn't help but fall in love for their mistress.

Cao Min sat quietly, her hair bundled in two buns at the top of her head. Her face had a touch of silly innocence and her plump physique added to her charm.

Looking from afar, she really looked like a silly chubby white cat.

"I'm not waiting for him, I'm just knitting." Her voice came out like a mewl. The hint of red on her cheeks belied her words.

"Alright, alright but let's get you warm inside. This servant brewed some tea while you wait... I mean, knit." The kind matron led the lady in while shaking her head.

Before she was even employed by this household, the name Nan Kan was already infamous in Suliang despite being a newcomer. Master Nan was known for buying the highest stakes in the underground fighting ring right after arriving at Suliang.

This came out as a challenge to the old bosses but he came out unscathed, proving that Master Nan had a strong background. Word had it that he was a distant relative of the throne. This wasn't confirmed but the people knew their places well. Since then, no one came after him even if he did more and more annoying things. His arrogance rose a notch further after becoming Prince Ping's adviser.

Who would have known such an unruly person had a sweet, loving wife?

The first thing Su Chen saw upon his arrival was the attendant helping his wife indoors.

"M-master has arrived." The matron put an uneasy smile. "This servant will heat your dinner."

Nan Kan waved his hand. His shoulders hunched in a sleazy way and his manner of walking was arrogant. "No need. I ate outside. Who likes the food here anyway?"

The old woman winced. The food in this small household was mainly prepared by her and two other assistants. They didn't have that much servants. After all, Nan Kan wasn't that rich.
