The compartment had four beds, two on the lower bunk and one on the upper bunk. After Zhao Yueji and Xiao E properly placed their luggage, they pulled out the small table by the window and placed the snacks and water bottle they had brought on it. The tickets they obtained were two for the lower bunk and one for the upper bunk.

"I'll sleep on the top, Mom. You and little sister can sleep on the bottom." The height was not a problem for Xiao E, who could easily climb trees.

Once Yun Xiaolu entered the compartment, she sat by the window and looked at the outside world. The train had already passed two stations, and the sky was gradually darkening.

"Mom, sister, look!" In the far distance outside the window, there was a vast expanse of white, shimmering with silver light. Yun Xiaolu wasn't sure if it was a lake or a river.

"That should be Lake Luoyan. I heard from an elderly person that it's the largest lake in our province, almost like a sea." Although Zhao Yueji hadn't seen it, she had heard people from distant places mention the large lake to the west.

Xiao E also leaned by the window and took a look, asking uncertainly, "Were there people walking on top just now?"

"It seems so."

Yun Xiaolu also noticed that the lake was frozen. There must have been people walking on it, but weren't they afraid of falling through?

Xu Nianyun explained from the side, "They're probably setting up nets to go fishing."

"It's truly amazing." Yun Xiaolu was surprised to hear that the temperature here was almost one or two degrees lower on average than her home, even though the distance between them was just over three hundred miles.

Xu Nianyun also found it incredible. She had also experienced it—a small train traveling at a speed of sixty or seventy kilometers per hour seemed only slightly faster than riding a bicycle.

The sky was getting darker, and when the window turned into a black screen, the lights in the compartment were turned on. Yun Xiaolu and her companions had seen electric lights before; Yun Yi's family used them at home. However, the electricity supply was limited to the evenings, and it would be cut off at a certain time. So, on normal days, Yun Yi had to prepare oil lamps and flashlights.
