Chapter 61

When Yun Xiaolu finished her notes, Xu Nianyun added a new biology course for her in the system. At this time, formal biology courses were not yet part of the domestic education system. The reason Xu Nianyun opened it for Yun Xiaolu was twofold: first, to familiarize her with common high school biology knowledge from the future, and second, to provide her with more choices for her future path.

So far, Yun Xiaolu had not shown any signs of being inclined towards any specific subject. She seemed to excel in every subject she completed, and she didn't display any particular favoritism towards any subject. This troubled Xu Nianyun.

"What do I like to study?" Yun Xiaolu was greatly shocked. She thought that in the future, she would have to study a bit of everything. Over the years, she had become accustomed to "Love for Learning" arranging everything for her, and she just had to follow the plan.

Could she actually choose for herself?

Xu Nianyun doubted whether there was a deviation in her education process. In her concept, schooling involved basic education followed by a gradual specialization in college, which was common knowledge for children in the future.

However, Yun Xiaolu encountered the learning system before even attending school, and the educational common sense in her current environment was different from the future. So, the things she took for granted might not even exist in Yun Xiaolu's understanding.

"Are you saying that I learn some basic knowledge and then only focus on one subject?" Could it be like that?

"It's not about learning only one subject. Each subject cannot be completely independent. For example, physics and mathematics are inseparable, and chemistry and biology are closely related. But each person has limited energy, and when it's impossible to learn all the knowledge in the world, we can only choose to study a small part of it."

Yun Xiaolu began to understand, "So it's like the arts and sciences streams in high school, right? But I feel like I can handle studying both arts and sciences together right now."

She didn't feel overwhelmed, did she?

Xu Nianyun smiled, "That's because the knowledge studied in high school is still basic. The more profound knowledge and research can only be learned from textbooks in college."

To avoid missing anything, Xu Nianyun didn't include courses on politics and history in Yun Xiaolu's system. Those two subjects would be taught after the simulated teaching environment upgraded to the intermediate level, and she had scanned the textbooks for teaching them.

The current humanities and geography knowledge had been drastically reduced, and there was no need to learn classical Chinese in language class. The knowledge content of those few humanities textbooks couldn't even reach the level of middle school in the future, so there was nothing she couldn't handle.

"So, when I start learning university-level knowledge in the future, I don't have to study such a wide range of courses, right?" Yun Xiaolu finally understood completely, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Yes, if you have a leaning towards arts or sciences, you should make a decision as soon as possible so that I can arrange your courses accordingly," Xu Nianyun realized that Yun Xiaolu's excitement might have led her to mistakenly believe that studying fewer subjects would make it easier. In fact, the child seemed to be overthinking.

All fields of knowledge become more challenging as you progress, and all research becomes more demanding. She remembered when she was working on her doctoral thesis, she was losing handfuls of hair due to the stress.
