— castiel. —
before.
growing up, castiel has never been good at much.
he was considered the runt of the flock.
the one angel that was always left falling behind.his brothers and sisters have always been brilliant.
but he still wasn't perfect like a soldier should be.
he'd either make a mistake or cause another issue to solve.but there was one valuable thing about castiel.
castiel would never rebel, he was a loyal soldier.
devoted to any cause that he was assigned to,
all the angels said so, especially his superiors.but as he continued to grow, he grew to be more than just expendable. he grew to become a strong fighter, heaven's best. the most loyal angel of the garrison. castiel was given an order, and chosen to complete it. rescue a human from the darkest pits of hell. and he succeeded in that mission, but since they finally met.
the night in the barn where dean stabbed him right in the chest when castiel looked deep into pretty sage green eyes and saw nothing but despair, guilt, and severe anger. but yet, a human so special that he couldn't even perceive the angel's true visage or true voice? what makes this broken shell of a man so special?
the second time they met, right in bobby's house. castiel has discovered that he's impertinent and stubborn, almost annoying. he couldn't help but threaten to throw dean back in hell if he didn't show him any respect.
the third time they met, castiel sent dean back into the future to find azazel and figure out his plan for the children whose veins are coursing with demon blood and to slightly warn dean about the path sam was taking, withholding the fact that sam was drinking demon blood.
it wasn't his job to warm him. besides, dean didn't care or respect him, nor was he allowed to share this information.
dean had the same attitude, but he was a little more guarded in what he said to castiel but still, rude and sarcastic. castiel did seem to start to sympathize with him, seeing that broken look in his eyes tugged at something in him but he ignored it and focused on the information he needed from his superiors.
the fourth time they met, his superior's orders were strange. this time uriel was to accompany him, and they had to do whatever dean and sam winchester told them to do. castiel wasn't sure why. maybe a way to prove their loyalty to the humans in their command?
castiel needed a reason, a confident explanation of why he brought back such a disrespectful, ungrateful creation. his superiors tell him the plan is just, that things will all play out like they're destined to. he feels untrustworthy almost. his superiors have always withheld information to protect the angels, but dean winchester was his responsibility.
raziel and ophaniel have been encouraging him to not have doubts about the mission, and the angel doesn't.
not completely anyways, he mostly doubts dean's worth, his purpose. because all to castiel, since they met. dean has shown that he is selfish and stubborn. he had so much anger inside of him, it made him explosive, dangerous even. he wouldn't listen, he wouldn't obey. it was almost unbearable to be around him. he was unpredictable and never showed respect.but eventually, dean became more tolerable to be around, over time. it also helped that he had to focus on keeping uriel focused on true orders, and uriel was not excited about working with humans. he called them mud monkeys. another seal was broken, but at least he got to know the human in his charge a little more, a nice conversation in the park, and dean seemed more comfortable around him now. but heaven started to seem suspicious of their relationship, his garrison began to worry about it.
