— dean. —
being a man is difficult.
being a man with daddy issues is difficult.
being a man whose supposed to save the world from monsters and evil is difficult.
but, being a man who's in love with an angel exceeds all expectations of difficulty."something smells good." the light brown-haired man hummed, following the hall to the kitchen where the intense smell of french toast filled his nostrils. once he enters the room, he sees his brother mouthing the lyrics to whatever 2000s pop song was playing over the radio.
castiel was already sitting at the kitchen table, surfacing the web on sam's laptop. his hair was combed back in the messy, just-out-from-the-shower type of way, it even looks like he shaved. he was wearing his dark black coat over the casual white button-up shirt, tucked in with a raven blue tie, followed by some loose black jeans, dean could've handed back his trench coat by now, but he didn't hate seeing this combo on castiel. he always looked so beautiful, he couldn't take his eyes off him.
"making french toast, dean-o." sam grinned, causing his older brother to raise his eyebrows. "you feeling okay, sam?" dean asked his brother before grabbing the handle to the refrigerator and scanning it for the last beer. "dude, i'm great. we got a new lead on lucifer, this french toast is turning out great, cas is back, so many wins." sam smiles, earning a slight smile from castiel who glances in their direction before turning his attention back to the laptop sam was letting him use, dean takes a swig of the beer in his hand.
cas had been back for a few weeks already, so he wasn't understanding why sam was still crazy about it. he's said this same thing a few times already before, as much as dean can agree that he's glad cas is back, it's a little strange having your brother calling your whatever he is one of the biggest wins of the week, over and over.
even castiel thought it was strange, but he wasn't going to argue. there were very few times sam was happy, and he intended to keep it that way. dean sat down across from the angel, the two meeting eyes before completely avoiding eye contact all in a second.
dean's relationship with castiel has reached this level of weirdness that even he didn't want to confront, dean wasn't that angry anymore but he still picked on castiel, he tended to still cause stupid arguments over nothing, but he never let them get as far as they did that one day. it also wasn't normal that once they saw each other they would lock eyes in an instant, and dean would just picture throwing himself at the angel, kissing his perfect-looking face.
"cas, man. use a coaster, the water is getting everywhere. how many times do i need to tell you?" dean is already starting an argument, sam doesn't tend to entertain these stupid petty arguments anymore, but he knows it's his brother's way of getting over things, he only stepped in when things got bad. like a week ago, castiel gave him sass and it ended with the angel shoved against the wall, with them nearly killing each other.
it's gotten better at least.
castiel only sighed, sliding his drink onto the coaster which was on the other side of him. "you still have a mess to clean up, dude. you can't expect things to be immediately fixed just by doing what was said." dean snarled, and finally, castiel looks at him. "why don't you take your own advice?" castiel doesn't get that irritated anymore, since dean only does it a few times a week now, so he just gives a sassy reply, dean blinked twice before shaking his head slightly.
part of him liked that castiel had gained this new confidence and would shoot him sarcastic replies and sass all the time, it made it entertaining. "touché." dean muttered, placing his beer onto the coaster, earning a nod from the angel who sunk into his seat, placing his hand against his chin as he scrolled through a newspaper article. an uncomfortable silence fell upon the three men until sam slapped down a plate of hash-browns, bacon and french toast, and a nice hot cup of coffee for castiel.
