— dean. —

"hey dean?" a voice says,
breaking the dirty blonde man's train of thought,
a-crossed him is his younger brother, sam.
he's wearing his usual blue checkered flannel,
with a dark gray undershirt.
he's waving his hand in front of the other man.

"you good, man?" the long-haired boy asks, his voice echoing in dean's ears, causing him to cover his ears for a moment. "god, lower the volume please." dean groaned, causing sam to look at him, his grey-greenish eyes read concern. "right, sorry. is everything alright with you?" sam asks, dean nods his head, removing his hands from his head as he places them in his lap.

"too many drinks last night," he answers. "ah. um, hey. i think i got something." sam says, turning the laptop towards him. "yeah?" "this woman was brutally murdered in her own home. no sign of forced entry, neighbors said they didn't see anyone. sounds like us right?" sam says, looking at his brother with intent. "yeah, couldn't hurt to check it out." he soon replies, finishing the beer within minutes.

dean stands up, nearly stumbling as he tries to catch his balance. he grabs onto the chair to hoist himself up. he regains control of his balance and then grabbed his jacket off the chair. the boys make it toward the stairs, immediately stopping when there's a noise. there's a large clang, instantly grabbing both boys' attention. the sound of the door unlocking, as a figure steps into the room, standing at the entrance to the stairs. sam lets out a gasp first, sam swings his head to the side to see his brother's reaction; dean is staring with wide eyes, his mouth slightly open.

radiant ocean blue eyes. soft, chaotic dark-brown curls fall against his eyes, shielding a little bit of the brightness. soft, clear, almost angelic skin. his trench coat is dirty, with tears within the seams of the shoulders, there's a hole, fabric seeping with blood where a large gash is imprinted in his shoulder. his black dress shoes are coated in mud. there are streaks of dirt across his face, nearly covering a deep wound crosswise on his cheek.

"cas?" dean mumbles, immediately walking up to him once he reaches the last step. he grabs castiel by his face, checking the cuts. "what the hell happened to you? where have you been?" dean says, before pulling him into a tight hug. castiel is hesitant to hug him back. sam then comes up, placing a hand on castiel's shoulder; which only makes the angel wince. "it's so good to see you, you know. alive! cas, we thought you were dead." sam smiles. "where were you?" he repeats the question once dean lets go, sam then throws his arms around him.

"i was in heaven."

dean blinks twice when he watches castiel accept the embrace, even willing to immediately hug back.
there's a harsh sinking feeling in the pit of the hazel-eyed boy's stomach. "heaven? cas... heaven?" dean says, almost as a question. "i called you like a thousand times, i prayed to you, i begged for you to show up. and you were in heaven? i thought you were dead! we thought you were fucking dead!" dean can't even contain his anger now. he's right in the angel's face, screaming.

sam is biting back the urge to yell at dean, but it would make it so much worse. sometimes he just can't understand why dean gets so angry at castiel, he's never seen dean get that upset with anyone before, not their enemies, or even their dad. "i'm sorry." the angel mumbles, he's avoiding eye contact. "yeah, whatever." dean huffed loudly, grabbing his phone off the table before walking past sam and castiel, past the living room area, and towards the halls, the hallway to where his room was. where that moment happened.

"where are you going!" sam yells. "i don't know!" he screams back, suddenly a loud slam. sam whips his head back around, looking up at castiel. he's weak, and sam can tell. sam wraps his arm around castiel, giving him back some strength as he helps him sit down. "what happened, cas?" sam mumbles, quickly rushing to get the first aid kit, and sitting down by the angel.
