The paddock was alive with excitement, more excitement than Sophie had ever experienced at a Grand Prix - and that included her home race. The full place was packed with people brushing by shoulder to shoulder, and shouting just for the person next to them to hear. All of these people being so overbearingly excited started to send Sophie into an anxious spiral, it wasn't that she was introverted, she was clearly an extrovert at heart, but sometimes having too many people in an unpredictable environment just tipped her over, it's sort of like that saying, too many chefs spoil the soup, well in this case it was too many people were spoiling the paddock.
Still, she pushes her way through it to try and reach the room where her interview was being held. However, her unpleasant walk became even worse when the boy walking out of Ferrari had to walk straight in to her, accidentally knocking her wrist which sends a shooting pain travelling up her arm.
"Ow." Sophie let's out a low hiss, using her right hand to cradle her throbbing wrist.
"I'm so sorry." Charles finally turns around to see that the person he had bumped in to was none other than Sophie. "Oh, hey, hi." He awkwardly rubs the back of his neck.
"Oh so you are speaking to me now." She can't help but glare at him, her anxiousness being unable to compare to her sudden flare of anger.
Since Sophies accident she hadn't heard a word from Charles - no text, no phone call, no talking in the passing, nothing. More than anything the silent treatment hurt her, this is the boy who she has fallen head over heels for, yet all of a sudden it's as though she doesn't exist, without any reasoning whatsoever.
"I - Soph - " he begins to stutter.
"Stop." She raises her right hand to his face. "Only the people who care about me get to call me that, and you clearly are not one of those people." The words hurt her too. On the inside she felt like buckling to her knees and begging him to tell her why he changed all of a sudden, but on the outside she had to stay strong, because one wrong look from someone nearby and their whole relationship would be blown to the media, and that's the last thing she wants right now.
"Let's not do this here." He looks around, still cautious of all the cameras floating by.
Oh how this would be a great moment for Ted's Notebook to stop by.
"Let's no do this Charles." She shakes her head in annoyance. "Let's not act like everything is fine in front of the rest of the world when you won't even speak to me behind closed doors. I'm sick of it and I'm sick of you for making me feel like this." Gently pinching her nose, she takes a deep breath before letting off what has been weighing her down. "What did I do to make you hurt me this much?"
Charles features fell and a glossy look of sadness fell over his eyes. He looked almost in pain, which both confuses Sophie and pissed her off - why does he get to play the victim?
As he opens his mouth to reply, a pretty brunette launches herself in to his arms and Charles quickly grabs her before spinning her around, with the pair not wasting anytime in locking lips.
And just like that Sophie's world fell. It crumbled to the ground as though an earthquake had erupted through it and destroyed everything in its path. The pain was unbearable, it was a feeling she had never experienced before - like her own heart was being ripped in two before being forced through a shredder. She wanted to cry and scream and punch a wall, but all she could do was laugh, because there was no way on earth she would ever let him see her break, not anymore, not ever again.
So she laughs at how stupid she was for creating her own downfall. The one thing she promised herself she would never do, she has went ahead and done. She had gotten her heartbroken. That tiny little organ with such an important job, that she had wrapped in bubble wrap over and over again to preserve, had just been stabbed with a sharpened dagger from the one she thought she could trust - the sweet talking, good looking boy from Monaco who shared her passion.
