In the year 1391, two boys were conceived in the worst place imaginable - the Depths. A hellhole where no light shines, monsters of your deepest nightmares run rampant and hope is few and far between. Though of different origins, both were adopted into the Divers, beginning their training to survive in this world. One of these boys was Faust Ytreshi, the other Patrick Jaeger. Growing up together inside Castle Light, the only place one may call a safehaven in the Depths, 18 years later, they were ready to leave it's walls, to venture outside.

Walking out of their dorm with their fellow divers, they were talking casually, teasing each other as usual."I'm not joking! I seriously think one day we'll control the depths!" -Pakki exclaimed."Yeah, when we drop below 10% death rate! Do you even know how much our death rate is?!" -Colt answered, unamused.Colt was always a realist, never daring to dream big. A dark green haired celtor wielding a spear and Thundercall."Isn't it something like 98 percent?" Faust answered, hands in pockets."97.46, actually. It's a relatively nice improvement." A girl with jungle green, long hair and goat horns answered, walking up to the group of three.Colt sighed. "Hi to you too, Gwen..."Gwen was a few years older than us. She had gone out on an expedition before, however she described it as... Traumatic.
The girl chuckled. "So what's the big holdup? Faust being a narcissist again?"Colt crossed his arms. "Not this time... Pakki thinks one day, the Divers will completely acclimatize to the depths and control it. Like how we control the overworld."Gwen got serious. "Listen... I know it's hard to imagine, but it's a cruel world out there. You three wouldn't last against a single gigamed."Pakki huffed, speeding up his walk. "So what?! I'll just become stronger... And besides, we are making advances! I'm telling you... Since know is the day that I--, that WE become Divers..." He approached the massive door at the entrance of the castle. "...Now is the day that the Diver's counterattack against the monsters begins!" He flinged the door open, and everything switched to silence. Eyes widened.

A single, massive beast stood in front of them. A dark owl, with a purple aura. It seemed as though it was happening in slow motion. The only noise they could make was a single, terrified "...huh?" before the owl dashed into the building, smashing through the entrance and the first room, knocking aside the rookie divers. It was all black for a couple of seconds before Pakki woke up. When he eventually did, everything was in ruins, and Faust was carrying Colt and Gwen into a side room in an attempt to get them to a safe place. Gwen woke up as she was being carried. "Wh..." She looked at the destruction and the massive deep owl as the journeymen divers tried to defeat it. "It... ...breached Castle Light?... This is... It's hopeless..."Faust put her down in the side room. "It's not exactly optimal... But they can surely beat it..."Colt leaned against a wall looking out towards the destroyed door and the road to the celtorian wastes. "No... That thing isn't the only one.... Look..."From the outside, a massive purple, king thresher was heading straight for Castle Light, alongside two smaller, green threshers.

Pakki stumbled out of the rubble, grabbing onto his Crescent Cleaver. "If the journeymen are fighting that owl..." He stumbled out in front of Castle Light, holding his sword towards the monsters. "...Then we're the last line of defense. We have to hold them off!"
Colt glared at him. "Are you insane?! Gwen said you couldn't defeat a damn jellyfish! Let alone that thing!"
Pakki squeezed his teeth.
"Don't... It's pointless... You'll just die--" Gwen tried to convince him, but was interrupted.
"STOP!... ... Don't continue... I don't want to hear it. I know I don't stand a chance. But... I don't have more of a right to live than the people still inside." The tresher was getting dangerously close. "If they were the ones here... Would they do it? Would you be angry if they didn't? I don't want to be like them... If no one fights, we'll all die. So stand back--" He pointed his blade forward, rushing at the thresher. "AND LET ME DO IT INSTEAD!" He stabbed it into the Thresher, lifting it up, before slamming it into the ground. "... It's getting up... Like it didn't even feel it..." Pakki backed up a little.
Faust rushed towards him. "Behind you!" He tried to push Pakki back just as the other Thresher burst out of the ground beneath them, knocking them both back.
Colt looked at them before looking at Gwen, who was starting to have a panic attack. "Shit... I can't help them..." He stumbled to Gwen to comfort her.
Pakki crawled back, grabbing his sword. "Why'd you come after me...?!"Faust caught himself, taking out his large iron sword. "Figured SOMEONE would have to save you..."Suddenly a journeyman diver ran out of the Castle, stopping at them. "What are you doing?!- Rookie divers fighting these things you... Just.." He thought for a moment, shaking his head. "Just try to survive! I'll get help!" He ran for a couple of meter before a black hand grabbed him firmly, lifting him high up into the air.
Pakki looked on, gripping his sword. "W-What... Even..."Slowly, an alpha megalodaunt revealed itself, lifting the diver into air with a hand before biting him in half before Faust and Pakki's eyes, blood splattering everywhere.
"...is that?..."
