Chapter 31*Revised*

               It had been three days since Wei Wuxian was knocked out. He was still in a coma-like state. All Lan Wangji wanted to do was be by his beloved's side with their egg. He was forced into a council meeting that day when Jin Guangshan, of all people, started making a fuss about his soulmate.

               Wen Li and Lan Junjie stayed at his side. He was not speaking as a representative of Gusu Lan at the moment but as the husband of the new Wen Sect leader. He would have had Wen Qing join him.  She had helped openly during the war, but the same people she helped were shunning her on Jin Guangshan's word. 

               That vile man was using the fact that his sect was the least affected by the war to bribe other sect leaders to his side. Fortunately, he was not alone Nie Sect and Lan Sect were on his side. Jin Guangshan wanted to place a slave shackle on Wei Wuxian since being a vampire hybrid made him dangerous. It's more like the disgusting pig wanted control of Lan Wangji's soulmate.

                  The conference had been going on for three hours with neither side backing down. Suddenly, the place was filled with a suffocating aura. Everyone except for Lan Wangji were having trouble breathing. 

                  Lan Wangji's heart skipped a beat, and a smile spread in relief at the man standing by the door of the meeting hall. "I am not a property for you to brand as you see fit. I am an immortal, The grandson of Baoshan Sanren, and the Chosen heir to the phoenix god. I won your war at my and my family's expense, and you dare try to brand me like cattle. 

                What is this? Now that Wen Rouhan is gone, do you think you need to take his place, Jin Guangshan? If so, pray tell what your contributions were during the war. These men gave their warrior's lives. Sons, daughters, Mothers, and Fathers lost to create a brighter future, and you stroll in here after giving NOTHING! Trying to take advantage of the weakened state of things.

               You gave nothing. Don't even deny it since your own son mentioned that he fought against you to bring a handful of his men with him. Sect leaders, is this man who will use you as a meat shield who you really want to follow? So he has money, so what? Is his dirty money worth more than the people you vowed to look after? 

                I'm extremely disappointed in all of you. I, as the new Wen Sect leader, side with the Lans and Nies. As soon as I take my place, I will look through the treasury and return all items taken from the sects they were taken from. I am willing to give land and aid to those aggrieved by the war to rebuild. 

               Trust me, I remember those we protected that do not need the land, just new trade agreements. Now... I will take my husband since our egg is about to hatch. Unless you are cruel enough to believe this farce is more important than the birth of the new Wen Sect heir? No? Good. I hope no one is stupid enough to try anything against my baby. I am a parent first, not yet a sect leader." 

              Grabbing a dazed Lan Wangji's hand, Wei Wuxian led them out of the tent back to the room where Wen Qing watched over their egg. Lan Wangji was in awe. His husband was amazing at shutting all those old fools up with his mere presence.  

              When the door to the bedroom closed, Lan Wangji found himself with his arms full of his lover. "Lan Zhan, I woke up, and you weren't there. I thought something happened to you after the fight ended. I was so scared. Please don't leave me alone." Lan Wangji gently ran his hands through his lover's loose hair. He took the time to drink in his appearance and enjoy the warmth of holding him after so long.

               A cough brought them back to the present before Lan Wangji could show his love and how much he was missed. Wen Qing stared at them judgmentally, raising one eyebrow. "You two do realize that I'm in here too, right? Also, your egg is hatching without you, which is dangerous for the babe." 

             Wei Wuxian visibly flushed and pulled away to go to the egg, leaving Lan Wangji to follow behind him stoically. The only tell of his embarrassment was his flaming red ears. "Alright, Qing-Jie, what do we have to do?"

                    Wen Qing stationed them on either side of the egg on an array. They were not to touch the egg but send their energy into the array to help stabilize the hatching process. She kept scolding Wei Wuxian. He wanted to be with his Lan Zhan or kept trying to reach out and touch the egg to urge it to hatch faster. He was not the most patient person when forced to sit still. She forced them into meditation to keep up their energy with the promise to wake them when the egg was ready.

                 She allowed Lan Xichen, Jiang Yanli, Wen Li, Baoshan Sanren, and Lan Junjie to come inside to wait. They were forced to lock the doors with seals. Many tried to force their way in to see the hatching process.

                They spoke quietly about what had happened at the conference making plans to secure a good future for hours. It was almost midnight when a loud crack was heard. Everyone rushed close to the egg but heeded Wen Qing's warning to stay outside the array for everyone's safety.

                She gently brought both parents out of their meditation as the second crack was heard. The egg was emitting blinding light from the cracks, forcing everyone to shield their eyes. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stared in awe, wanting to see their baby. BOOM!!!!! The room shook as a wave of energy dispersed from the egg. The shell pieces flew like projectiles, but the array didn't allow them out of its range.

             Everyone was speechless while Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji got closer to the pillow where the egg had been to see a tiny black dragon wrapped around a blue phoenix chick. They looked at Wen Qing for answers, reaching out to gently touch them. "Eggs can't hold a human form. Most animal shifters are born like this. You can apply some of your energy to them, and they will take human form for about ten minutes a day for a month. After that, they will start shifting for that amount of time and more on their own. We should separate them first. "

              As soon as the two were separated, they started moving frantically as if searching for the other until Wei Wuxian held them against his chest. They settled down and opened their eyes. The baby dragon had silver eyes like Wei Wuxian, and the chick had golden eyes like Lan Wangji.

            Tears slid down Wei Wuxian's cheeks as he smiled at the little ones in his arms. He felt Lan Wangji wrap his arms around him in a hug while looking at their children with a small smile. They forced a bit of energy into the twins and found themselves holding tiny newborns.

            The little one with silver eyes had features more like Lan Wangji, while the other looked more like Wei Wuxian. They happily introduced their sons to their family. Huasang had teleported as soon as Jiang Yanli remembered to call him. They cooed at them until the time was up, and they turned back to their animal state. 

             Everyone could see that the new parents just wanted to be alone with their kids. Before they left, Yanli couldn't help but ask them what they would name their boys. "Lan Wangji thought for a moment before speaking. The little dragon will be Wei Yuan courtesy of Sizhui for the way Wei Ying spent most of his life."

           They smiled sadly before turning to a teary Wei Wuxian for the next name. " This will be Lan Xie courtesy Jingy, as I want there to be no limits to what he can accomplish. It will also cement that our boys are both Wen and Lan." Their family smiled brightly before leaving for the night.

             Lan Wangji pulled his lover and their children and the bed so he could hold them. He had never felt as happy as he did at that moment. Every other problem in his mind had been kicked aside when those tiny silver eyes met his. 

             Wei Wuxian felt the same, though he knew that just because the war was over didn't mean the problems would disappear. As he looked at his sleeping husband, smiling while holding their babies, he vowed to resolve every issue as soon as possible. He would not want to miss a minute of that. After all, his biggest wish was to have a family. Now that he had one, he would take on the world to keep them. Jin Guangshan better watch his back if he tries anything against his family.
