Lan Wangji nodded thoughtfully to himself before picking the stunned Wei Wuxian back up on Bichen to fly back. The only thing Wei Wuxian could think was "Well Fuck". Dragons were a powerful race of shifters known for being Powerful, possessive, fierce, and commanding. Now that Wei Wuxian thought of the strict Lan Wangji it made sense. Hell, all the rules of the clan now made sense. The rules were to suppress their more animalistic natures.

The problem now was that he had made a deal with Lan Wangji without meaning to.  To dragons that was as binding as a written contract. Thinking during the flight about every detail that just occurred finally awoke his curiosity. "Hey LanZhan? Why does it matter if I am or am not part of the Sanren line?" He asked into Lan Wangji's ear over the roar of the wind. He smirked at the shiver he felt from the man as he whispered in his ear.

To Wei Wuxian's frustration, Lan Wangji didn't reply or pay him much attention until they got back to the inn. He had resettled Wei Wuxian in bed like a sick person without having a choice in the matter to his annoyance. "Lan Yi never mated with her husband it was a marriage for the continuity of the Lan bloodline. A few years after her husband died she mated her sworn sister Baoshan Sanren." He explained so softly it was almost whispered.

Wei Wuxian sat up so fast he made himself dizzy in his shock. "WAIT WAIT WAIT! Are you telling me that your grandmother or whatever she is mated, my grandmother?!?! What- mmmmmmnnmm" He glared at Lan Wangji menacingly for putting the Lan clan's silencing spell on him again. With no expression or warning Lan Wangji hit an acupuncture point on Wei Wuxian rendering his body useless and tucked him into bed. "Mn Now sleep Wei Ying" He answered before turning off the candles and getting into his bed falling asleep immediately to Wei Wuxian's ire.

After Lan Wangji made him agree to be soulmates, one would expect their relationship to change. To Wei Wuxian's growing consternation Lan Wangji spoke and punished him as if that entire situation didn't happen. It was so bad he started thinking it might have been a hopeful dream.

It wasn't like he knew where this secret cave was so he could prove to himself it existed. He couldn't really go up to Lan Xichen and ask if there was a super secret ice cave in the mountains behind Cloud Recesses or hey by the way are you and your whole family dragons in disguise? No definitely not something he could do.

The most Lan Wangji would speak to him was to remind him of his punishment or to call him shameless before walking away. It was driving Wei Wuxian insane and if it wasn't a dream did this mean Lan Wangji no longer wanted to be his mate? It hurt Wei Wuxian deeply how much colder Lan Wangji seemed to be with him the next few days.

By the afternoon of the third day without any change, Wei Wuxian was pretty disappointed that it had all been a wistful dream. With a deep sigh, he pushed away his friends after class and went to sit by the river to let his disappointment sink in. He wouldn't be able to fake a smile even if he tried right now. It hurt physically to be rejected by his mate after gaining his acceptance it was only this that made him doubt it was just a dream. Hoping to get his emotions back in control he sat on a large rock in the middle of the river to meditate. His energy was all over the place. It was attacking him from the inside almost as punishment for being rejected by his mate.

It was almost nightfall when Wei Wuxian was pulled out of his meditation by Lan Wangji's deep baritone. "Wei Ying" Sparkling silver clashed with molten gold and Wei Wuxian knew all those hours of meditation had been hopeless from the pain in his chest. "Wei Ying come" Just like that Lan Wangji turned around and walked away expecting Wei Wuxian to follow him. Wei Wuxian scrambled to catch up to the cold jade.

His heart might have been squeezing painfully but he would never deny his soulmate anything. Then again such was the way of the phoenix. It would deny nothing to the one in its heart hence how most phoenixes ended up dead or enslaved. Against his better judgment, he followed Lan Wangji's silent steps deep into the back hills of Cloud Recesses.
