gathering 'round the bonfire, gladers were having the time of their lives;  partying away, drinking gally's moonshine, singing, dancing, laughing, bonfire night was one of the best nights in the glade every year. 12 times a year and all the nonsense that happens never gets old. there are pockets of boys at every corner of the glade, but the only boy that thomas has had his eyes on for the last 15 minutes, laughing heartily by the bonfire with gally and alby, was newt.

Thomas was head over heels in love with newt. since the first time he set foot in the glade and newt took care of him on his first night, every moment with newt was magical. thomas felt as though the whole world had stopped when newt told him that he liked him too, he remembers that moment crystal clearly.

newt was his best friend, the one that understood him and truly cared for him, other than minho of course, his partner in crime and the one who urged him to talk to newt. minho sat down next to thomas and said, "still staring at newt, ya lovesick shank?" thomas laughed it off and nodded. minho continued, "tell me about you guys. i wanna feel disgusted by your adorable relationship again."

Thomas's eyes shined under the moonlight, or maybe it shined with the love it held for newt. he opened his mouth and started talking,

"i was like a crow on a wire,"

he didn't even get one line out and minho interrupted him, "that, i agree yes." thomas rolled his eyes and continued,

"newt was like a shining distraction that makes me fly, home. i was like a boat on the water, newt was the raise in the waves that calm my mind, every time. i let him use me from the day that we first met, but i'm not done yet. i'm not done falling for him. it's like fool's gold. i don't ever regret falling for him, he's fool's gold."

minho's mouth dropped to the ground, seemingly shocked at how in love thomas was with newt. thomas had thought it was quite obvious. "dude, i know you loved him but i didn't know you were this down bad for him." minho scoffed and started to get up. "well, i'm gonna head to bed now, and you should too. we've got an early day tomorrow. night thomas." thomas bid him goodnight and layed back against the tree, his thoughts about newt never seem to end.

thomas was first to admit, that he was reckless, he gets lost in newt's beauty and he can't see 2 feet in front of him.

from the moment that thomas met newt, he knew that newt was going to be his forever. he was falling and falling and falling deeper in love with newt every day, he never thought it was possible for someone to just keep on falling in love with another person. his and newt's love was as real as ever, it would last as long as forever.

thomas got up from the tree and walked over to newt, smiling warmly as he sees his beloved having a good time with the others. newt catches his eye and immediately sets his glass of moonshine down and walks towards thomas to they meet in the middle. the 2 boys interlock fingers and smile lovingly at each other.

"hello love, are you alright? tired?" newt's concerned, sweet voice that sounded like music to thomas's ears. thomas hummed in response and nodded, pulling newt away from the bonfire and towards his hut. newt happily followed suit and the two walked side by side towards thomas's hut, where they spent the night cuddled up and embracing one another.

he's my fool's gold.

a/n: this is actually quite different from the song but it's kinda cute i guess 😭 i'm working on another one rn !
