WRITTEN IN 3RD PERSON POV

gunshots and explosions resonated from all directions as the 4 boys desperately try to find the berg that could take them all to the safe haven. "leave me here, i'm slowing you down" newt tried to pry minho and thomas's arms off of him as he struggled to stand on his own. "wha- newt, how could you say that? you know i would never leave you" thomas's voice laced with a kind of pain that only people who lost a loved one could ever understand.

as newt keeps vomiting out disgusting black liquid, thomas turned to minho, "minho, you gotta run and get that serum, brenda has it." minho nodded and reassured thomas he would be back in a flash. "you just hold on, okay?" patting newt on his shoulder, minho and gally run out into the roads in search for brenda and the serum.

the blonde and brunette get left alone amidst the chaos that keeps unfolding around them. newt tried to get thomas's attention "thomas.." he never thought he would hate his own name so much. thomas knew that newt's time was slimming by the second and him being there to witness the end of it doesn't make it any better. "tommy look at me.. please" newt's voice getting weaker each time he spoke. when thomas finally looked at the blonde he cared for so much, his heart shattered into a million pieces at the sight of his beloved newt, struggling to stay sane.

newt's irises shifting in and out of black and white, with all the voices in his head, it took him a great deal of effort to push them aside and finally speak again. "thomas, every moment you spent with me, you helped me get through my darkest days and stopped all of my mental wounds from bleeding out again." thomas grabs on to newt's hand, squeezing it to let him know he's listening. "ever since you said out my name, i havent heard it sound the same. ever since you stepped into the light, i knew i'd let you ruin the rest of my life. im not scared of what this would do to me tommy, im scared of what it would do to you."

the last part escapes newt's mouth as a whisper. "i like you greenie, a lot" newt laughs lightly as he accepts his fate that's slowly approaching. "oh newt.. how am i supposed to live without you? how am i supposed to stop my heart from beating for you? i dont know how i could ever let you go" thomas visibly shrinks at the mention of letting newt go, knowing he couldn't possibly ever do that.

"i like you too newt, i dont know what im gonna do without you" thomas's face is now stained with tears, as he desperately gripped onto newt's cold hands, refusing to ever let go. in that moment, the lights around them lit up, and that caused a subtle change in newt's demeanour. he sat up, straight. his body started twitching and thomas heard low rumbles coming from his chest. "newt?" thomas's voice trembled and afraid of what's about to happen. never in a million years did thomas imagine he would lose newt like this.

newt slowly lifted his head, and his eyes that were once a beautiful brown now looked like a black empty void, green stained his veins and it had become visible to the eye. thomas's heart stopped at the sight of newt, in a form he could no longer recognise. letting out a growl, newt lunged at thomas, who struggled to fight with the new strength newt had possessed. as they fought, newt fighting to kill thomas and thomas fighting to save newt, the sound of a knife piercing through skin made them both stop in their tracks. thomas thought for a second he had stabbed newt on accident, and panicked but as it turns out the love of his life had plunged the knife into his own chest.

newt collapsed onto the ground, his breathing shallow and uneven. thomas's mouth was dry and words were caught at the back of his throat. he caressed newt's face as he tries to find his words again. his vision was blurry from the tears forming in his eyes but he could make out that newt's lips moving."i love you tommy" thomas heard the faint whisper of the boy, but before he could respond, newt's eyes cleared, his chest stilled, leaving thomas all alone among the burning buildings. thomas cried even harder and hugged on to newt's body, knowing newt was in a better place now. he promised himself that he would never forget newt, and he would never get over him. thomas wanted to find newt again, in another life.
